The highly anticipated race was finally called by multiple outlets on Thursday evening after a late surge for Lake in Maricopa County.
Per The New York Times: Former television news anchor Kari Lake was ahead in every county and garnered about 47% of the votes that were tallied. Karrin Taylor came in second with 44% when the race was called. Now Lake will face Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs in the general election.

“Though the results took longer than they should have, Arizonans who have been forgotten by the establishment just delivered a political earthquake. My opponent Katie Hobbs had just one job in government, and that was to ensure an efficiently processed election. She failed spectacularly,” Lake said in a statement. “Arizona just sent a clear message: our state is done with failed politicians like Katie Hobbs.”

Lake has been given the typical America First candidate treatment from the corporate press for her support of former President Donald Trump and for being a so-called “election denier.”
She left her television role in 2020 citing the “obvious bias” and “liberal ideology” of the media. And has set up her platform around investigating and rectifying the “corrupt and stolen” 2020 election.
As The Daily Wire reported, “Lake won in a race that became a proxy battle of influence between Trump and his former vice president, Mike Pence.” Two individuals that are considering 2024 presidential bids though neither has announced their candidacy yet.
Questions surrounding election integrity in Arizona have been said to have Republicans split. However, the wins in favor of America First candidates like Blake Masters, Wendy Rogers, and Mark Finchem show that voters see this topic as an important one.
For example, Finchem has stated that he “will stop the ballot fraud, will fight for transparent elections, positive ID for all voters and secure our elections.”
He adds: “I will make audits normal and regular so that the cheaters can’t steal our elections anymore.”
NBC News smeared Finchem as “a prominent 2020 election denier” during their article about his election victory. And Newsweek even went as far as to dub the Trump-backed candidate as the “QAnon-linked Arizona lawmaker.”
