Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie Congratulates Matt Gaetz for Heroically Standing Up to the Military-Industrial Complex

Although the United States House voted against Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz’s resolution to remove American troops from Syria on March 8, 2023, Kentucky Congressman Thomas Massie praised Gaetz for his heroic effort. In a tweet he posted on March 8, Massie said the following:

Thank you @RepMattGaetz for boldly introducing this resolution to remove our troops from Syria. For those interested, here is the roll call for today’s vote. 103 Representatives, including myself, voted to end our involvement in this war:https://clerk.house.gov/evs/2023/roll136.xml

Gaetz’s resolution was rejected on a vote count of 321-103, further demonstrating how captured the US Congress is by the neoconservative/neoliberal establishment. There are currently 900 troops stationed in Syria, predominantly in northeastern Syria, such as the  Hassakeh and Raqqa provinces.

Since the outbreak of the Syrian Civil War in 2011, the US has interfered in Syria’s internal affairs in a way to facilitate the toppling of Syrian strongman Bashar al-Assad’s regime. This is part of the US’s universalist desire to remake the entire globe in its image. On top of that, the US has a slavish devotion to Israel, which has major beef with Syria due to the Levantine country’s strong relations with Iran.

Iran has long been suspected of embedding its proxy militants such as Hezbollah across Syria to keep pressure on Israel.

Irrespective of this geopolitical intrigues taking place in the Middle East, the US has no pressing interest to justify a military presence in Syria.

Instead, the US should focus more of its attention on securing its border with Mexico and focus on stabilizing the Western Hemisphere — its traditional sphere of influence. To facilitate such a vision of foreign policy restraint, more America First nationalists such as Matt Gaetz and non-interventionist libertarians like Thomas Massie must be elected to Congress.

The current neoconservative/neoliberal cabal in Congress simply does not want to exercise restraint. Their only desire is to continue fomenting unrest and bellicose behavior abroad.
