Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer wrote a 2000 letter to a concerned citizen vowing that he would fight to reduce the number of illegal immigrants entering the United States.
“I believe it is imperative that we enforce and strengthen existing immigration laws to prevent illegal immigrants from entering this country,” Schumer wrote, a year and a half after he was elected to New York’s Senate seat.
“You can be certain that in the Senate, I will continue to fight for tougher measures to reduce the number of illegal immigrants entering this country,” Schumer wrote. “Again, thank you for taking the time to share your views about this important issue. If I may be of further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.”
