McConaughey: Dems Want ‘Whole Loaf’ On Gun Control, But Willing To ‘Take A Slice’ This Time Around

Actor Matthew McConaughey played directly into the political left’s hand with his “emotional” response to gun control at the White House Tuesday afternoon.

“We need background checks,” McConaughey pleaded with the American people. “We need to raise the minimum age to purchase an AR-15 rifle to 21, we need a waiting period for those rifles, we need red flag laws and consequences for those who abuse them.”

McConaughey’s performance was in response to the recent tragedy in Uvalde, Texas – the actor’s hometown. During the speech, McConaughey tried to persuade the American people to give into the whole Democrat gun control agenda, even though most of their proposed measures would likely do nothing to prevent the next mass shooting. McConaughey has had a history of calling for extreme gun control measures. And he has even gone as far as supporting gun bans.

During a 2018 rally for the anti-gun March For Our Lives group in Austin, Texas, McConaughey said law-abiding gun owners needed to “take one for the team.”

“One, let’s ban the assault weapons for civilians. This is a no-brainer,” he said. “And to my friends out there, that are responsible owners of these assault weapons that they use for recreation, please let’s take one for the team and set it down.”

In an interview with Fox News anchor Bret Baier after speaking at the White House press briefing earlier that day, McConaughey said that Democrats want “the whole loaf” when it comes to restricting gun rights, but that they are willing to just “take a slice” this time around – WATCH:

According to McConaughey, he understands the bigger picture that Democrats want to disarm law-abiding gun owners by restricting firearms in America. And is now urging Republicans to give Democrats some of what they want right now.

“But the consensus word that I’m hearing and phrase is that this time is different, that there is some more momentum, that, on the Right, there are some things that they’re willing not staunchly say no to and consider, that on the Left, they’re willing to say, you know what, we may want the whole loaf, but we will take a slice of bread,” McConaughey said.

“So, I’m told that this is a novel thing happening right now, and this is a novel and special time happening right now, where, actually, something may change, instead of just talking about it, and nothing changes again for another 30 years,” he added.

Conservatives slammed McConaughey on Twitter over all of his gun control comments Tuesday night. Here are some of those responses:
