Megan Rapinoe “Almost Bullied” Teammates into Kneeling During National Anthem, Says Former Goalkeeper

The former goalkeeper for the US women’s soccer team has criticized Megan Rapinoe’s tactics for getting her teammates to kneel during the National Anthem.

Hope Solo, considered one of the best ever at her position, implied that the kneeling didn’t necessarily stem from strongly-held convictions on the part of all the players, but rather due to Rapinoe’s insistence that they fall in line with her.

“I’ve seen Megan Rapinoe almost bully players into kneeling because she really wants to stand up for something in her own particular way,” Solo said on a recent episode of the podcast “All of Us: The US Women’s Soccer Show,” adding that kneeling is generally “very divisive.”

It’s no secret that many soccer and sports fans strongly disapprove of Rapinoe’s kneeling and strident progressivism. Her actions have even prompted franchisees of Subway, one of her endorsements, to pressure executives into dumping her from ads and commercials.

The New York Post reported that on a North American Association of Subway Franchisees discussion board, a franchisee in Wisconsin posted a picture of a note taped to the front door of his store that read: “Boycott Subway until Subway fires the anti-American […] Megan Rapinoe, the creep who kneels for our beloved National Anthem!”

The franchisee commented that “the ad should be pulled and done with. It gets tiring apologizing.”

The Post added that several franchisees had formally complained about the Rapinoe ads to Subway leadership.
