Mexican Cartels Rain Bullets Down on Police in Border Shootout

The officers were attacked on Monday, January 13, 2019 early in the morning near the Libramiento 2 highway in the city’s southern section. Breitbart Texas was able to gather information from authorities of the state of Tamaulipas.

The officers responded to a report of shootouts when Gulf Cartel assailants began opening fire.

The gunmen used dozens of makeshift road spikes which blew out the police vehicle’s tires. One of the officers was shot in the leg while the other suffered undisclosed injuries.

The assailants were able to escape using a series of dirt roads despite the manhunt used to pursue them. The ambush on Tamaulipas state police comes during a time when the Mexican border cities of Reynosa and Rio Bravo are experiencing surges in violence as rival factions of the Gulf Cartel duke it out for control of drug and human smuggling routes in Texas.

Last week, Rio Bravo, a border city situated right below Donna, Texas, witnessed a prolonged shootout between the Gulf Cartel and the police. The gunmen ended up stealing several vehicles to block roads. Rio Bravo is currently under the control of a rival Gulf Cartel faction that uses the city as a springboard to send hitmen into Reynosa.

This is just another day in the failed state of Mexico. Cartels practically have their way thanks to the weaponry they have acquired, which is not the conventional equipment most foreign onlookers think a criminal outfit would possess.

As a result, they have been able to overpower police and military forces seemingly at will.

At this point, there is no question that Mexico’s dysfunction must be contained by putting up a barrier on the southern border.
