Mitt Romney Refuses to Condemn Impeachment Efforts After Release of ‘Deeply Troubling’ Trump-Ukraine Transcripts

Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT) told reporters today that the contents of a rough phone transcript between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky are “deeply troubling” and that he refuses to take impeachment of Trump off the table.

Romney was not clear exactly what he found “deeply troubling” about the conversation, in which Trump brought up legitimate instances of corruption related to former Vice President Joe Biden and the private cybersecurity contractor CrowdStrike.

“I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it,” Trump said to Zelensky about Crowdstrike, who handled the inspection of the DNC’s servers allegedly hacked by Russians.

“I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike … I guess you have one of your wealthy people… The server, they say Ukraine has it,” Trump continued.

“There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it … It sounds horrible to me,” Trump said to Zelensky about Biden.

Biden was caught on video during an appearance at the Council on Foreign Relations in 2016 boasting about how he strong-armed Ukraine into firing a prosecutor believed to be investigating his son’s shady business dealings within the country:

Romney is silent about all of this corruption while continuing to place blame on President Trump. Since being elected to the Senate, he has become the new John McCain – doggedly opposing the President at every turn.

Romney has even refused to endorse the President’s re-election bid, in what could be conceived as tacit support for whoever his Democratic challenger may be.

“I’m not planning on endorsing in the presidential race,” Romney said during an interview with CNN. “At this stage, I’m not planning on endorsing in the primary or in the general.”

“I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President,” the Utah Senator said after the release of the Mueller report, which demonstrated no evidence Trump colluded with Russians to effect the result of the 2016 presidential election.

Trump released a video on his Twitter earlier this week reminding the public that he is a winner and Romney is a loser:

Romney continues to embarrass his party and his country as a Never Trumper dancing to the beat of the fake news media and Democratic Party. His niece, RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel, must be ashamed of her bloodline in lieu of her uncle’s petty vendetta against the President.
