Most Americans Favor Constitutional Amendment To Limit Federal Spending And Power

Do Americans of today hold a fierce desire for independence as our founding fathers did back in 1776? Maybe so — a comfortable majority of them would support holding a “Convention of States” to limit the financial discretion and legal power of the federal government, according to new survey data.
The poll was released by The Trafalgar Group. It featured 1,000 likely voters and took place in early July 2022.
A total of 65.7 percent of voters say they support a Convention of States to meet and propose Constitutional Amendments focusing on term limits for Congress and federal officials, restraints on federal spending, and limiting the federal government to its constitutionally mandated authority, according to collected results. The survey additionally reported that only 16.6 percent of voters would oppose the convention and that the other 17.7 percent remain undecided.
It additionally noted that an impressive 63.3 percent of Independent voters supported Constitutional amendments “focusing on term limits for Congress and federal officials, federal spending restraints, and limiting the federal government to its constitutionally mandated authority.”
Even 50.2 percent of Democrat voters reportedly supported the proposal, with a quarter opposed and the other 24.2 percent saying they do not know.
“Voters in all parties know that—regardless of who is in power—Washington, DC is fundamentally broken and something dramatic has to be done to change the game. The deck is stacked against the American people, and these numbers show vast majorities agree it’s time to reboot the relationship between the federal government and the states,” said Mark Meckler, President of Convention of States Action.
“The founders saw this problem was inevitable, and inserted a provision into Article V of the Constitution to empower the states to return our Republic to its original design. Clearly, the public support is there across all demographics to make this happen.”
Such data could prove challenging for the Democrat Party given their tendency to exercise extreme federal control in order to get their way politically. White House occupant Joe Biden has additionally been polling miserably, with recent surveys showing his approval rating at the ‘lowest among recent presidents’ thanks to a rapidly inflating United States dollar.
