Nancy Pelosi Will Run for Speaker Again If Democrats Hold the House

Everyone’s favorite Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi, has said she will seek another term as speaker if the Democrats maintain their House majority.

She declared her intention in answering a question from CNN’s Jake Tapper, adding that “we [also] have to win the Senate.”

The USA Today noted that this comes after a challenge by “several members of the Democratic caucus” who represent more conservative constituents and think her speakership is an “impediment to the party’s electoral chances.” Pelosi is also being challenged in the California 12th District race itself by a Pakistani-born “democratic socialist” named Shahid Buttar, whom Pelosi has been doing nothing but ignoring.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, also speaking with Jake Tapper, said she would support “the most progressive candidate” for speaker.

“I am committed to making sure that we have the most progressive candidate there. But, if Speaker Pelosi is that most progressive candidate, then I will be supporting her,” she said.

Pelosi has served in the US House since 1987 and is currently in her second stint as speaker. Her first speakership lasted from 2007 to 2011. She struck a deal back in late 2018 to limit her current speakership to four years, so we’ll in all likelihood see her in the post until 2023.
