#NeverTrump Fantasy: After Trump Steps Down, Chris Christie Will Become President

Quite a heavy-handed prediction.

A former adviser for President George W. Bush claims that President Donald J. Trump will leave office in 2019, surrendering the office to Vice President Mike Pence, who will then be challenged and defeated in the Republican primaries by loathsome former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

In his newest guest column in NJ.com, former Bush adviser Alan Steinberg offered an implausible series of events that would lead to former Governor Christie having another shot at becoming the next President of the United States.

According to Steinberg, President Trump will use his presidency as a bargaining chip to avoid criminal prosecution in 2019, paving the way for Vice President Pence to assume office. Pence, facing horrible reelection prospects after President Trump’s departure, will be ousted by Christie, who Steinberg claims is not “a bigot, a racist, a misogynist, or a xenophobe.”

From NJ.com:

So the search will be on for an alternative 2020 Republican presidential candidate to Mike Pence. Given the ability of the Trump base to veto any such alternative, the Pence opponent must not be somebody identified as a Trump adversary. That rules out former Ohio Gov. John Kasich or Nebraska U.S. Sen. Ben Sasse.

The Republican who will emerge as the opponent to Pence will be none other than former Gov. Chris Christie, a man of irrepressible ambition who has never relinquished his presidential aspirations. And his service in the 2016 Trump campaign ensures his acceptability to the Trump base.

Steinberg claims that President Trump’s base would accept Christie because he has been an occasional ally of President Trump, allowing the party to coalesce around the one candidate who could beat an insurgent Democrat Party.

As fanciful as this scenario must seem to the majority of Americans, Steinberg is completely serious in his assessment.

“So get ready for the next political comeback of Chris Christie,” Steinberg concluded, “his most impressive comeback yet.”

ACCOUNTABILITY: President Trump Fires Deep State Snitch Who Triggered Impeachment Hysteria

Trump made the announcement to Congress on Friday.

President Donald Trump is taking out the trash now that the impeachment witch hunt against him has subsided, and he has fired a deep state snitch instrumental in getting the impeachment proceedings off the ground.

Trump has fired Michael Atkinson, a Department of Justice attorney who served as the Intelligence Community Inspector General, after Atkinson notified Congress last year about the “whistleblower” complaint filed by CIA operative Eric Ciaramella. This prompted months of hysteria that ultimately found no evidence of Trump committing any wrongdoing.

“As is the case with regard to other positions where I, as President, have the power of appointment … it is vital that I have the fullest confidence in the appointees serving as inspectors general,” Trump wrote in his letter to Congress. “That is no longer the case with regard to this Inspector General.”

Leading Democrats are not happy about Trump cleaning house and removing deep state operatives from power.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is demanding that the President to “immediately cease his attacks on those who sacrifice to keep America safe, particularly during this time of national emergency.”

House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff (D-CA) said that the firing is “another blatant attempt by the President to gut the independence of the Intelligence Community and retaliate against those who dare to expose presidential wrongdoing.”

“This retribution against a distinguished public servant for doing his job and informing Congress of an urgent and credible whistleblower complaint is a direct affront to the entire inspector general system,” Schiff said in a statement.

“In the midst of a national emergency, it is unconscionable that the President is once again attempting to undermine the integrity of the intelligence community by firing yet another an intelligence official simply for doing his job,” said Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA), the top ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“When you speak truth to power, you should be a hero. But in this administration, when you speak truth to power, all too often, you get fired,” Schumer said during an appearance on CNN.

Republican lawmakers are generally pleased with the President’s decision to remove Atkinson.

“Like any political appointee, the Inspector General serves at the behest of the Executive. However, in order to be effective, the IG must be allowed to conduct his or her work independent of internal or external pressure,” said Sen. Richard Burr (R-KY), who chairs the Senate Intelligence Committee.

“It is my hope the next nominee for the role of ICIG will uphold the same important standards laid out by Congress when we created this role,” he added.

“The intelligence community inspector general is particularly essential to ensuring the nation’s secrets are well protected and powerful, highly invasive surveillance authorities are not abused. Going forward the ICIG must step up its focus on investigating those abuses and preventing leaks of classified information,” Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) said.

Trump is finally starting to drain the swamp by removing some of these career bureaucrats from position of authority in Washington D.C.
