New Jersey Teacher Union Pushes for Scrapping Basic Skills Test Requirement

Earlier this month, the New Jersey Education Association published a statement boasting about its goal to reduce the standards for prospective teachers and called on allies to write letters to Governor Phil Murphy manifesting support for the cause.
“Last year, New Jersey eliminated the edTPA, a barrier to becoming a certified teacher. Now it’s time to eliminate another barrier: the basic skills test for teachers,” the statement outlined.
“New Jersey requires that candidates for teacher certification pass a basic skills test, the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Reading, Writing and Math, or show SAT, ACT, or GRE scores in the top third percentile the year they were taken,” the statement added.
The statement hinted at the state’s education department potentially eliminating additional requirements for individuals looking to pursue a career as teachers.
“When the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) adopted changes to the administrative code around teacher certification, it missed an opportunity to eliminate this requirement, which created an unnecessary barrier to entering the profession,” the statement continued.
American education is starting to become a joke due to the lack of competition among government schools and the permissive attitudes towards sketchy pupils and teachers. The latter case has degraded schools to the point that they’re no longer capable of producing the next generation of productive citizens, much less leaders.
With wokism becoming so embedded in American political culture, one can only expect US education to continue deteriorating. This does not augur well for America’s future. We could be staring down the barrel of an Idiocracy style environment where every aspect of American society is dumbed down and basic services don’t even function.
This dystopia could become a harsh reality if we don’t get our act together and sort out the education system.
