New Mexico Democrats Continue Pushing Civilian Disarmament Laws

In the latest attempt to establish New Mexico as a gun control hub, State Senator Daniel Ivey-Soto sponsored Senate Bill 204 which would permanently prohibit most individuals from bringing firearms to parks and playgrounds.
The sponsorship of this bill comes on the heels of Governor Michelle LujanGrisham’s first Public Health Order on firearms that was issued back in September 2023. This order rolled out a temporary ban on the carry of firearms in Bernalillo County’s public spaces. However, after much legal pushback, this order was ultimately downsized, with it only covering public parks and playgrounds.
Despite Lujan Grisham’s order facing stiff legal challenges in state and federal courts and calls from Republican opposition leaders for her to be impeached, her political allies have continued to advancing legislation that expands upon this order’s gun-grabbing policies.
The bill additionally exempts law enforcement, military on official duty, or security from this law. Otherwise, any individual caught violating this law would be slapped with a fourth-degree felony.
What’s unfolding here is the first steps towards turning New Mexico into a massive gun-free zone. These would be any criminal’s wet dream. Criminals view gun-free zones as the perfect targets for their heinous acts for the simple fact that there will be no meaningful resistance to them.
New Mexico is already sliding down into the abyss of gun control, with a lousy 34th place ranking according to Guns & Ammo magazine’s best states for gun owners rankings. Should this gun grab be passed, New Mexico will become just the latest state to succumb to Gun Control Inc’s civilian disarmament agenda.
