New York Attorney General Letitia James Calls for Censorship of Speech With Respect to Israel-Hamas Conflict

New York Attorney General Letitia James is calling for censorship of social media discourse regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
James wrote the following: “In the wake of Hamas’ unspeakable atrocities, social media has been widely used by bad actors to spread horrific material, disseminate threats, and encourage violence. These platforms have a responsibility to keep their users safe and prohibit the spread of violent rhetoric that puts vulnerable groups in danger.”
James has pushed social media companies to explain their tactics for fighting such threats and their plans to guarantee online platforms are used for their purpose of promoting terrorist activities, concluding: “I am calling on these companies to explain how they are addressing threats, and how they will ensure that no online platform is used to further terrorist activities.”
FIRE, a pro-free speech organization, sent James a letter requesting that she walk back from her letter. FIRE serving as counsel for neutral video platform Rumble. It urged the “immediate and unequivocal retraction of [James’] October 12, 2023 investigation letters to six internet platforms, including Rumble.”
In a letter that Reclaim The Net was able to obtain, FIRE’s legal counsel claimed James’ demand letters “violate (1) a federal district court’s injunction against the enforcement of New York General Business Law § 394-ccc (the Online Hate Speech Law); (2) the active stay of all proceedings in that case as to Rumble; and (3) the First Amendment rights of the Investigated Platforms and their users.”
“By requiring citizens to police each other’s speech, New York threatens expression protected by the First Amendment,” FIRE senior attorney Jay Diaz said in a letter. “Would a video created by a pro-Israeli activist calling for bombing Gaza qualify as a ‘call for violence’? Is a news report including a quotation from a protestor defending Hamas attacks on the Israeli military equal to inciting violence? The attorney general’s vague letter fails to address these vital questions.”
Most politicians in the US are owned by the Zionist lobby. As a result, they will bend over backwards for Israel, even if it means completely violating their oath of office to defend the US Constitution.
At some point, a political force will have to step up to the plate and re-assert the political will of the Historic America Nation.
After all, this is America not Israel. Elected officials should work to advance legislation that has the interests of Americans, not foreign lobbies, in mind. Ultimately, elected officials like James must be relieved of the burden of holding higher office for the clear treason they are engaging in.
