Nikki Haley Lets Media Off Hook After Smollett Hoax

The former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations took to Twitter to defend the lying mainstream media after they ran with the Jussie Smollett hoax.

“Thoughts on Jussie Smollett case: He must be held accountable in the strictest way. He must repay resources used to investigate and serve time for the division he caused. The media should be the most outraged. He played all of them for fools. He knew they would cover it,” Nikki Haley Tweeted Tuesday.

Smollett did not “play them for fools.” The media are fools. The onus for running with unconfirmed allegations and publishing his bogus story is on them. The story made little sense from the beginning, but our non-critical news media were desperate to attack Trump supporters.

Two white supremacists targeted and attacked Smollett at 2 a.m. in Chicago yelling “This is MAGA country?” One must be completely out of touch with reality (or have a political agenda) to not question that claim.

And should the media be the most outraged? Or should it be the decent, ordinary Trump-supporting Americans who were once again falsely accused of bigotry?

The first cycle of news after the Smollett hoax blamed “homophobic, racist, Trump supporters”  for the “attack” based on nothing more that what Smollett told police. That is not journalism. That is parroting the message of an obviously-deranged celebrity.

Haley can let the media off the hook for their role in this, but they will still hate her – and every other Republican – by virtue of the political party she supports. This is the simple fact that Conservative Inc., including Haley, fails to understand. Corporate conservatives always think they are one compromise away from media redemption.

That will never be the case.

The media is just as culpable in the Smollett case as Smollett himself.
