Opioid-Pushing Sackler Family is Given Legal Immunity in $6 Billion Settlement Over Oxycontin Marketing Lies

A New York court of appeals has granted full legal immunity to members of the billionaire Sackler family, who founded of the bankrupt corporation Purdue Pharma, after a $6 billion settlement was reached over their deceptive and deadly marketing tactics in pushing dangerous and addictive pain pills on the masses.

“The Sackler families believe the long-awaited implementation of this resolution is critical to providing substantial resources for people and communities in need,” the Sackler families gleefully said in response to the ruling. “We are pleased with the Court’s decision to allow the agreement to move forward and look forward to it taking effect as soon as possible.”

“Our focus going forward is to deliver billions of dollars of value for victim compensation, opioid crisis abatement, and overdose rescue medicines. Our creditors understand the plan is the best option to help those who need it most, the most fair and expeditious way to resolve the litigation, and the only way to deliver billions of dollars in value specifically to fund opioid crisis abatement efforts,” a spokesman for Purdue Pharma told CNN.

As part of the settlement, the Sackler family is reportedly spending billions of dollars of their own money to fight the opioid epidemic, but the damage is already done, and who knows how that money will really be spent.

“Today’s court decision allows nearly $500 million of Purdue Pharma’s ill-gotten gains to be brought back to California, to heal our communities and provide real relief to countless suffering families,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta Bonta said. “However, disappointingly, the decision does not require Purdue to lift the Sacklers’ liability shield from private claims. The victims of this crisis deserve justice and they should have the option to take Purdue to court for it.”

Purdue Pharma created the drug oxycontin, one of the most popular pain pills that has facilitated the nationwide opioid crisis that has destroyed communities across america. In the 1990s, Purdue Pharma claimed that oxycontin was non-addictive and went to great lengths to conceal the truth about the nature of their drug.

Former Fox News host Tucker Carlson exposed how Republican establishment spin doctor Frank Luntz was employed by Purdue Pharma to demonize addicts in an attempt to sweep the opioid epidemic under the rug and blame the victims:

In the years since, hundreds of thousands of people have died due to opioid addiction with millions of other lives destroyed because of the lies of the greedy and mendacious Sackler family. And not only will they serve no time in jail, but they are shielded from all future civil suits as well. It pays to be evil in this New World Order.
