ORWELLIAN: Facebook ‘Fact-Checks’ Top US Economist For Stating US Is In A Recession

One of the biggest stories from last week was the ongoing back and forth debate (if you can even call it that) over the word “recession.”

The standard definition – which has been used routinely by top economists and leading Democrats for years – has become outdated thanks to the newly made-up one by the Biden administration.

What makes this whole topic frustrating is watching corrupt organizations like Wikipedia go along with the White House’s updated definition of the r-word.

In case you missed it, the flip-flopping on terms and definitions changed so much last week that a Wikipedia administrator had to place a pause on edits to the site’s “Recession” page by unregistered users until early August.

This is because the page was reportedly edited 41 times over seven days with various and repeated attempts to alter the standard definition. Additionally, site admins labeled many of the site changes as “vandalism” and or “malicious” content.

To add to this Orwellian trend, a top US economist fell victim to Facebook and its agenda-driven band of “fact-checkers” on Thursday.

The researcher and educator with the American Institute for Economic Research simply stated that the US is in a recession following the release of Thursday’s GDP report which showed negative growth for the second consecutive quarter.

Then, as Phil Magness would write on Twitter, he was fact-checked for the claim:

“We live in an Orwellian hell-scape. Facebook is now ‘fact checking’ anyone who questions the White House’s word-games about the definition of a recession,” he said.

Magness would later call out the Biden administration and the Facebook fact-checkers for their blatant hypocrisy.

“Meanwhile, remember that time when Joe Biden declared that we were in a recession in October 2020 without any NBER determination? Funny how they don’t fact-check that one,” he wrote.

“Or the time Biden declared we were in a recession in September 2020? No fact-check there either,” Magness added.

More from Magness:

According to Bloomberg from earlier this month, “more than one-third of Americans believe the economy is now in a recession.”

So while the American people are viewing the economy one way. The Biden administration is doing everything in its power to downplay these politically damaging GDP numbers.

They are telling the nation to not believe its own lying eyes. And woke institutions like Wikipedia and Facebook are showing their loyalty to the regime by ignoring the standard definition of the r-word in place of the Biden administration’s updated and far more complicated version.

“We’re not gonna be in a recession,” Biden said last week when asked about the topic by Fox News White House reporter Peter Doocy.

Later in the week, after reading the damning economic reports that clearly signal that the US is in a recession, Biden “assured” Americans that all is well with the economy by saying “that doesn’t sound like a recession to me.”
