Plea Deal Means No Jail Time for Cop Who Allegedly Had Sex With Teenage Girl

A former South Carolina police officer will not receive jail time despite being charged for allegedly having sex with a teenage girl.

“Investigators said the officer, Adam Kyle Snelgrove, 33, had sex with a 15-year-old girl in his patrol car,” according to CBS17. “In 2016, Snelgrove posted $25,000 bond, in connection to charges related to sexual activity with the teenage girl.”

The police chief of Fountain Inn, the town in which Snelgrove served, originally alerted state authorities to the activity of the officer. Arrest warrants said that Snelgrove had sex with the girl in his patrol car while he was on duty, and “kissed, hugged and felt the victim at Frankie’s Fun Park,” a small amusement park. Their relationship allegedly lasted from May to November of 2012.

“We now know that Snelgrove will serve three years probation after pleading guilty to misdemeanor charges of contributing to the delinquency of a minor and misconduct in office” the report said.

According to Greenville News, Snelgrove will not have to register as a sex offender.

A civil lawsuit against Snelgrove, which was put on hold while the criminal complaint was handled, has now been re-opened.

“The lawsuit alleges that the plaintiff, who was 15 years old at the time, volunteered to assist the Fountain Inn Police Department with its summer youth camp during the spring and summer of 2012, which is when she met Snelgrove,”  the report said. “It alleges that Snelgrove sexually assaulted her at Frankie’s Fun Park on Woodruff Road in May 2012 during a summer camp function.”
