Polish Prime Minister Calls for Permanent US Military Bases

In an interview on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki expressed his hope that United States President Joe Biden would match his enthusiasm in wanting to defeat Russia in its war with Ukraine. According to Grzegorz Adamczyk of Remix News, Morawiecki took European leaders such as French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz to task for their seemingly lackadaisical support of Ukraine. He declared that Russia “cannot win this war and Ukraine cannot be defeated.”

“We have to change that paradigm and we have to say, Ukraine must win and Russia must be defeated,” remarked Morawiecki. The Polish Prime Minister justified this statement on the grounds that “the very nature of Russia is to conquer other countries.”

At the time of the interview, Morawiecki revealed he had just returned from the Munich Security Conference. He called attention to how Munich was the site of a conference in 1938 when European statesmen felt they had reached a lasting peace with Nazi Germany.

“This time around, there was no room for such naivety, and it was up to the Ukrainians to define what would be negotiated with Russia and when,” commented Morawiecki.

The Polish prime minister also received questions about whether Poland was expecting any new developments on the US troop deployment front. The prime minister revealed that Polish authorities were holding discussions with the Biden regime about making the US presence in Poland “more permanent” and larger than the present 11,000 troops stationed in the country.

Morawiecki stressed the importance of bringing Ukraine into the NATO fold, noting that “if we fail to integrate Ukraine into NATO and the European Union, Ukraine will always be a buffer zone,” thus making it and the broader region insecure.

Whatever Poland’s security concerns are, they should be of no concern to the US. We already have too much on our plate at home and are greatly overstretched abroad. Poland has a nasty history of geopolitical tragedies but it should not be on the US dole for its security concerns.

Poland has turned into a developed country and can now begin to assume its defense functions. It should do what it can to build its own security architecture and even consider going nuclear to ensure its security.

However, the US should completely butt out of this entire process and do everything possible to pull away from Europe altogether.
