POLL: Majority of American Adults Back “Stand Your Ground” Laws

A large majority of American adults support strong legal safeguards for lawful gun owners using their firearms in self-defense in public.
According to a NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist poll published on May 24, 2023. Roughly 60% of United States adults stated they back so-called stand-your-ground laws that “allow people who are in a public place and believe that their life or safety is in danger to kill or injure the person who they think is threatening them.” This figure represents a 3% increase since the question was last polled. Over 80% of Republicans and 57% of Independents said they were in agreement with the laws, whereas only 40% of Democrats stated the same.
Stand Your Ground laws are one of the most effective ways lawful gun owners can defend themselves against criminals. Without them, many lawful Americans would be at the mercy of depraved criminals.
Despite the level of anti-gun indoctrination present in the education system and the corporate media, Americans still have strong residual pro-gun instincts. They will not just surrender their gun rights so easily.
Nevertheless, the fight to restore gun rights is far from over. There are plenty of gun control laws at the federal and state level that must be repealed. To take back the freedoms we’ve previously lost, we must be constantly pushing the envelope and pressuring the political class. Resting in this battle is not an option.
