Portland Blogger Mike Strickland: ‘Does Somebody Need To Die’ Before Police Act Against Antifa?

Published

on

Mike Strickland, blogger for Progressives Today and proprietor of the Laughing At Liberals commentary channel, said that Portland is reaching a crisis point with Antifa because the local political establishment refuses to hold the left-wing anarchists accountable for their violent actions. Strickland made these comments in response to journalist Andy Ngo’s assault Saturday at the hands of Antifa.

“The case with me pretty much legalized” Antifa violence, Strickland told Big League Politics, referring to a 2016 incident in which Strickland pointed a gun while surrounded by left-wing combatants. Though Strickland did not fire a shot, his defensive action led to his arrest and conviction on menacing, disorderly conduct, and unlawful use of a weapon charges, for which he was reportedly stripped of his Constitutional right to own firearms.

“The police, judges and prosecutors turn their backs when things like this happen, and that emboldens the violent thugs to continue terrorizing people and the city,” Strickland tells BLP. “And if anyone fights back against the violent thugs, then they get in trouble.”

“Does somebody need to die at one of these things before the police, judges and prosecutors act?,” Strickland wondered.

BLP reported:

A Twitter post from Friday shows that the attack on reporter Andy Ngo, who was savagely beaten by an Antifa mob in Portland, Oregon, was premeditated.

“I am nervous about tomorrow’s Portland antifa rally,” he said on Twitter. “They’re promising ‘physical confrontation’ & have singled me out to be assaulted. I went on Tucker Carlson last year to explain why I think they’re doing this: They’re seeking meaning through violence.”

He posted several screenshots from a Facebook event – which of course portrayed the violent mob as the victims of violence themselves – and screenshots from a local Antifa website promoting the event.

“Oregon City Proud Boy [redacted] targets the Portland DSA in a Facebook thread encouraging other members of the hate group to participate in the June 29 assault on Portland. Local far-right Islamophobic journalist Andy Ngo – who participated in the Patriot Prayer and Proud Boys attack on Cedar Riot on May 1, 2019, and who was the first to publicly promote the June 29 Proud Boys event – also targets the DSA while dismissing as hoaxes a series of assaults against the Portland LGBTQ community, some of which were gloated about by far-right activists.”

Another part of the post noted that the group was planning on “physical confrontation,” but said that there are “plenty of other ways to help” if one is unable to partake in the violence.

Ngo’s fears were confirmed when he was attacked Saturday.

Police also said that some of the attackers threw quick-dry cement from milkshake cups, though it is unconfirmed if that is what was thrown at Ngo.

“Police have received information that some of the milkshakes thrown today during the demonstration contained quick-drying cement. We are encouraging anyone hit with a substance today to report it to police,” Portland PD, who stood down during the violence said.

White Pill: Montana House Moves Constitutional Carry Bill Forward

Constitutional Carry is one ray of hope for the Right.

On January 20, 2021, the Montana House of Representatives passed Constitutional Carry legislation, HB102.

Dean Weingarten of Ammoland.com reported that the bill passed by a 66 to 31 margin.

Weingarten provided some context to the significance of this bill’s progress:

The bill is the accumulation of a decade and a half of struggle against Democrat Governors, who have repeatedly vetoed reform legislation passed with large majorities in the legislature. Numerous sections in the bill show the Montana legislature has learned the lesson from other states as they restore the right to keep and bear arms.

Montana’s Senate is made up of 31 Republicans and 19 Democrats and Governor Greg Gianforte is a Republican, so the passage of this bill augurs well.  If passed, HB102 would make Montana the 17th Constitutional Carry state.

Montana is already a very gun-friendly state, and represents a low-hanging fruit for Second Amendment activists to tap into.

Constitutional Carry has been one of the most successful movements on the Right over the past twenty years. It’s easy to complain about the corrupt status quo, but there are still plenty of ways right-wingers can score victories. Constitutional Carry is one of them.

It would behoove the Right to analyze existing trends and build off movements that are already producing results. There’s no need to embark on quixotic campaigns that end up being total fools’ errands. Find what’s already working and run with it.
