President Trump Says He “Has a Chance to Break the Deep State” In Sunday Interview

President Donald Trump expressed his belief that his administration is on the verge of defeating the so-called deep state in a Sunday interview, confirming that the undemocratic bureaucratic entity is on the ropes. Trump was speaking with Full Measure’s Sharyl Atkisson, in a show that was simulcasted across local news networks across the country.
Atkisson asked the President about the job performance of Ric Grenell, the former Ambassador to Germany recently appointed as the acting Director of National Intelligence. Trump pointed to Grenell as an administration official who has been crucial in restoring real democratic, executive branch oversight of the so-called intelligence community- an element of the federal government notorious for political corruption and anti-Trump bias.
“I’m exposing the swamp… If it keeps going the way it’s going, I have a chance to break the deep state. It’s a vicious group of people. It’s very bad for our country. And that’s never happened before.”
Grenell recently stripped the FBI of the responsibility of providing national security intelligence briefings, reassigning the duty to an agency without the agency’s toxic political track record.
President Trump also disagreed with a suggestion during the interview that the coronavirus pandemic is akin to the 9/11 attacks, pointing to the global pandemic as an event that affected 186 countries, not merely the United States. When asked about the federal response to the pandemic, Trump stood by his decision to recommend wide-ranging restrictions to deter the spread of the disease, stating that he believes the coronavirus state of emergency orders saved “hundreds of thousands of lives.”
The President also rejected a study from Columbia University making the tenuous claim that an alternative coronavirus containment plan would’ve lessened the blunt of the pandemic, calling the school “a liberal, disgraceful institution.”
