Progressive Chicago Political Organizer Mocks Cops Hit By Train, Forced to Resign from Job

A progressive political organizer in Chicago who mocked the two police officers who were hit by a train in pursuit of an alleged shooter on Monday night was forced to resign from his job, first reported by Block Club Chicago.
“Two people too stupid to avoid getting hit by a train were given firearms & the authority to kill people by Chicago Police Department,” said Carl Nyberg in a Monday night Tweet.
The Tweet was in response to a Block Club Chicago story about the tragic deaths of officers Eduardo Marmolejo, 37, and Conrad Gary, 31.
Nyberg was on the steering committee for Northside Democracy for America (DFA), which describes itself as a “grassroots political organization dedicated to electing socially progressive, fiscally responsible, ethically committed Democrats to all levels of government.”
Nyberg was pushed out of his role at DFA.
“As of December 18, 2018 Carl Nyberg is not a member of Northside DFA’s Steering Committee,” the organization said in a Wednesday Tweet.

According to the report, Nyberg volunteered for Chicago Alderman John Arena of the city’s 45th ward. An Alderman is a city council member.
Arena’s office denounced Nyberg’s comments.
“Mr. Nyberg’s comments about the tragic deaths of Officers Marmolejo and Gary were astounding and disgusting,” Arena reportedly said. “I am outraged by the callousness of his words as the families of Officers Marmolejo and Gary, and the entire city, continue to mourn.”
