Remington CEO Blames New York Gun Control Regulations for Company’s Move to Georgia

Remington CEO Ken D’Arcy revealed that the firearms giant is largely leaving the state due to its gun control environment.

In a report published by The Associated Press,  D’Arcy revealed in a press release that the “legislative environment” the New York State government created is a big concern to the entire firearm industry.

Remington’s iconic Ilion, New York plant was first created in 1828. Now, it will be closing as a result of the Imperial State’s regulatory environment.

In early December, Breitbart News published a report about Remington announcing the closure of  the Ilion plant, which would eventually take place in early March 2024.

In a report by News Channel 2,  New York State Senator Joseph Griffo, Assemblyman Brian Miller, and State Assemblyman Robert Smullen put forward a joint statement as a response to the announced closure. The statement said:

Remington’s reported decision to close its Ilion plant next year is concerning and unfortunate. This facility, which received investment from the state, employs many local residents. Unfortunately, like we have seen all too often in New York, burdensome regulations, crippling taxes and problematic energy and other policies continue to force businesses and companies to flee the state, taking jobs and livelihoods with them. We will continue to communicate with state and federal officials and work to help and assist the company’s employees and their families during this difficult time.

Remington’s move is not some coincidence. It’s the product of heavy-handed regulations that have made gun businesses non-viable enterprises in the state. AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News observed that Everytown for Gun Safety ranks New York in second place for its gun control laws. Hawkins highlighted some of the gun control laws in the books in the Empire State:

Those gun controls include an ‘assault weapons’ ban, a ‘high-capacity’ magazine ban, universal background checks, a red flag law, gun storage requirements, ‘ghost gun’ regulations, a microstamping requirement for new handguns, a ban on being armed on college or on K-12 campuses for self-defense or classroom defense, and stringent open carry regulations.

In a similar vein, Guns & Ammo magazine ranked New York in dead last at 51st place in its best states for gun owners rankings.

So it’s no shock why the likes of Remington are setting up shop elsewhere to conduct business. At some point, crushing regulations make it economically non-viable to run a firearms business.

In turn, these businesses will have to set up shop in greener pastures aka red states to just stay afloat.
