Rep. Dan Crenshaw Flip Flops on Support for Red Flag Laws After Receiving Grassroots Pressure

Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) has proposed a measure in the U.S. House that would ban red flag laws, reversing his long-held stance of supporting the measures to infringe on the 2nd Amendment rights of American citizens.
Crenshaw introduced H.R. 5417, legislation that would “prohibit funding for the implementation and enforcement of federal red flag orders” on Sept. 29. Specific text for the bill has not been released to the public at the present time.
He introduced the measure only one day after ducking and running from questioning by an America First activist over his repeated support for red flag laws:
Big League Politics has reported on Crenshaw’s support for red flag laws, which he shamefully tried to blame on President Donald Trump in order to deflect well-deserved criticism:
“Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) is lying about his support of red flag laws, claiming that he never supported the heinously invasive measures against the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution.
Crenshaw lied in a Twitter post, claiming he never supported red flag laws, but President Trump did. In actuality, Crenshaw was a massive supporter of red flag laws and lobbying President Trump to support them as a response to mass shootings.
“I don’t support red flag laws. Trump did. I made the mistake of trying to explain why you should only talk about RFL at the state level and how to protect due process if you do. But would never support a single RFL in existence,” he said in a Twitter post on Aug. 27…
However, Crenshaw explicitly supported red flag laws in opposition to the 2nd Amendment in Aug. 2019 when he felt it was advantageous to his political stardom in doing so. This was as the fake news media was whipping the public into a frenzy over two mass shootings that had just occurred.
“The solutions aren’t obvious, even if we pretend they are. But we must try. Let’s start with the TAPS Act. Maybe also implement state “red flag” laws, or gun violence restraining orders. Stop them before they can hurt someone,” he said…

Crenshaw’s flip-flop (in a good way) on red flag laws shows the power of the America First grassroots to push neoconservative lawmakers in the right direction. However, Crenshaw must be pressed on his support for state-level red flag laws as well as to not give any political cover to the disingenuous Congressman who has earned the moniker of “McCain 2.0.”
