REPORT: Bernie Sanders Fearing Joe Biden Will Blow the Election, Lose Young Voters

The Washington Post reported on Saturday that independent socialist Senator Bernie Sanders reportedly fears Joe Biden will lose the election to Donald Trump, citing what he perceives as a weakness with young voters on the part of the Biden campaign and a refusal to rally progressives behind his campaign.

According to the Washington Post, Sanders has “told associates that Biden is at serious risk of coming up short in the November election if he continues his vaguer, more centrist approach, according to the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive talks.

Sanders purportedly wants Biden to campaign with national progressive figures such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and focus more on healthcare policy in the runup to the election. As a candidate, Biden has mostly limited his campaign remarks to speaking about his own character, with his campaign staff going so far as to instruct volunteers not to talk about actual policy to potential voters.

Biden is hoping that he will defeat Donald Trump by siphoning away a sizable portion of senior voters and suburbanites, demographics that traditionally vote Republican. The campaign strategy could come at a cost of more young voters not voting, a disadvantage that doomed Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign.

Sanders’ Senate staff would later clarify that he believes Biden is in a strong position to win, but believes that he needs to improve in several critical areas.

The Democratic Party could be set up for massive internal strife if Joe Biden fails to secure a November victory.
