Republicans File Complaint to SEC Over Gmail Sending Campaign Emails Straight to Spam
According to the Republican National Committee, in September Google censored roughly 22 million fundraising and get-out-the-vote (GOTV) emails by sending them to the spam folders of individuals with Gmail accounts. The RNC is now looking at legal options to stop what they view as a “clear pattern of bias,” per a report by Fox Digital.
Fox News received data from the RNC demonstrating that at the end of every month emails sent to subscribers using Gmail accounts wind up in the spam folders.
On September 28, north of 3.1 millions emails sent by the RNC ended up in the spam folders. Cindy Harper of Reclaim the Net noted that “On September 29, Google censored over 9.8 million emails, and on September 30, over 9.97 million emails.”
The RNC informed Fox News that they reached out to Google about the issue “for months.” Thus far, the Big Tech giant has done nothing to address the matter.
“Our emails have been suppressed despite concrete changes that have improved overall performance,” an RNC official stated. “Despite having a significantly positive impact on performance, this appears to have had absolutely no impact on the timing of this end-of-month spamming.”
The suppression of the emails is apparently taking place towards the end of each month. The delivery rate goes from 90 to 100% to 0% at the end of the month.

“Every single month, like clockwork, Google suppresses important GOTV and fundraising emails at the end of the month, with zero explanation nor commitment from Google to resolve this issue,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said to Fox News. “We are less than 40 days out from Election Day, and important GOTV emails to our opted-in voters in states that have already started early voting are being systematically sent to spam.”
“Enough is enough,” she declared. “Big Tech bias is undermining the democratic process and the RNC is exploring our legal options to put an end to this clear pattern of bias.”
“We enable political committees and other organizations to reach their constituents, donors, and key audiences via email. When Gmail users say that they don’t want to receive an email, we place the email in the spam folder, politics or political affiliation plays no role in this determination,” Google spokesperson José Castañeda said to Fox News. “We recently launched a Federal Election Commission approved pilot program with a small number of campaigns to study whether these changes improve the user experience during this election period.”
This is a clear case of electoral interference on Google’s part. But let’s be honest here: Will the GOP actually do anything to curb Google’s election tampering?
GOP leaders can complain all they want, but if they’re not going to use proactive state action to punish companies who work against them, they’re merely signing their own death warrant.
Hostile institutions like Big Tech must be punished for their misbehavior and allowing them to operate with impunity will only encourage further bad behavior.
