Return of Yang Gang? Andrew Yang Files Paperwork to Run for Mayor of New York City
He’s back!

New York City’s Campaign Finance Board confirmed Wednesday that Andrew Yang has filed the paperwork to run for mayor, according to NBC New York.
Rumors about a possible mayoral candidacy have circulated for some time. Politico reported in early December that Yang was calling elected officials to gauge his support. And with paperwork now being filed, it appears he’s satisfied with what he heard.
Polling also shows that many New Yorkers consider him a viable candidate. A Public Policy Polling survey published Monday revealed that Yang leads Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams by one point and everyone else by several.

Yang is best known for his short-lived but memorable Democratic presidential candidacy throughout 2019 and early 2020. He outpolled and outlasted multiple Democratic candidates despite having no formal political experience. He made a name for himself by centering his campaign around a universal basic income policy of $1,000 per month. Unfortunately for Yang he was not able to turn his niche online support into actual votes, for he dropped out of the race after the New Hampshire primaries. He now works as a CNN political commentator.
New York City’s mayoral primary will take place on June 22, 2021. Current mayor Bill de Blasio is term limited and thus cannot run again.
A likely run for mayor isn’t the only reason Andrew Yang has been in the headlines lately. On December 18 he tweeted that there ought to be a way to have a “bar code” on people’s smartphones in order to prove that they received the COVID-19 vaccine:

PATHETIC: National Guard Booted to Parking Lot After Democrat Congressman Complained They Weren’t Wearing Masks
The Democrat complained about masks.

New reports suggest that a detachment of National Guard personnel present in Washington, DC for Inauguration duties were kicked out of their spartan lodging in the Capitol to a parking lot after a Democrat Congressman complained that one of the guardsmen wasn’t wearing a mask at a Dunkin’ Donuts inside the Capitol.
Breitbart News has learned that Massachusetts Democrat Will Keating reported that he encountered a soldier at the Capitol without a mask. When Keating told the guardsman to wear a mask, the service member told Keating, “I appreciate my freedom.”
This event reportedly led to the entire National Guard detachment being kicked out of their lodging inside a Capitol lobby to an outdoor parking lot, where they were exposed to freezing temperatures.
Keating has declined to comment on the exchange, with reports suggesting he reported the incident to Capitol Police. This led to the Guard being booted outside as a punishment.
“Yesterday dozens of senators and congressmen walked down our lines taking photos, shaking our hands and thanking us for our service. Within 24 hours, they had no further use for us and banished us to the corner of a parking garage. We feel incredibly betrayed,” one Guard member told Politico about being kicked to the curb.
Establishment Democrats had been eager to use the military service members as political props, even after a fiasco in which they were caught trying to purge conservative-leaning Guard personnel for insufficiently loyalty to the Biden government. Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida and Greg Abbott of Texas recalled the detachments of their state National Guards from DC following the second incident of disrespect to the troops, with the former rejecting the idea of FL Guard members being utilized as Nancy Pelosi’s personal servants.
