Ron DeSantis Bends the Knee By Dropping Out & Endorsing Donald Trump for President
On January 21, 2024, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis dropped out of the United States presidential race and endorsed former President Donald Trump right before the New Hampshire primary.
This decision came less than two days before the New Hampshire primary, set to be held on January 23. According to polls, DeSantis was trailing not only Trump but also former South Carolina Governor and United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley.
“It’s clear to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another chance,” DeSantis declared in a video posted on X on December 21.
In the video, DeSantis took a shot at Haley declaring Republicans “can’t go back to the old Republican guard of yesteryear, a repackaged form of warmed-over corporatism that Nikki Haley represents”.
During an evening rally in Rochester, New Hampshire on January 21, Trump ended up praising DeSantis, expressing his hope for future cooperation with him to defeat the ostensive Democrat nominee President Joe Biden.
“I just want to thank Ron and congratulate him on doing a very good job,” Trump declared. “He was very gracious, and he endorsed me. I appreciate that, and I also look forward to working with Ron.” The former president described DeSantis as “a really terrific person”
The Florida governor was able to raise $100 million in campaign funds by running on hot button issues such as combating antisemitism on campuses and woke issues in education.
DeSantis’ campaign ultimately failed to unseat Trump.
All things considered, the GOP is Trump’s party. Anyone that does not recognize this is completely out of touch with reality. The GOP is clearly moving in an America First direction.
Now, the challenge of our epoch is to ensure that all elected officials abide by the principles of immigration patriotism and foreign policy realism that this new movement entails.
