Russian Lawmaker Says More Americans Will Eventually Push for Exiting NATO
Leonid Slutsky, the Chairman of the State Duma’s Committee on International Affairs, said on November 28, 2022 that over time more Americans will support the concept of the United States leaving NATO.
“There’s a proposal in the US to shut NATO’s doors. To be more exact to exit it, which will in practice mean the beginning of the end of that organization. The Hill, a US publication, has run a piece by Bruce Fein, a former associate deputy attorney general, who proposed that the Congress withdraw the US from NATO. He said that would end the Ukrainian conflict and save Washington billions of dollars that pay for supporting Kiev. The US Congress could win a Nobel Prize for that decision, according to Fein,” the Slutsky declared on Telegram.
Slutsky believes that the publication of such a concept in a prominent news outlet “removes the taboo from the subject.”
“The idea has been reborn in the alliance’s home territory, and is making headway. It will be a thorny path – that much is obvious. But sooner or later the number of its adherents will begin to increase. And the US-cherished Kiev regime, as has been predicted by State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, is really getting more and more chances to bring NATO down to its grave,” he stated.
In addition, Slutsky described the idea of the US withdrawing from NATO as correct “at its core.”
“It’s a nice opportunity for Republicans, after they gained a near majority in Congress, to show goodwill and make a real contribution to reducing tensions in the world. Along the way, they will save a significant amount of American taxpayers’ money, or more than $100 billion a year (that’s the amount of expenses as reported by the author of the article), which today is going to the neo-Nazi regime of the US puppet [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky,” he concluded.
Slutsky may be onto something here. All empires have an expiration date. Even the US will meet its demise.
As the US’s social problems grow worse and its empire becomes more difficult to maintain, there will be growing pressure for the US to retrench from foreign affairs. Eventually there will be a handful of elected officials who start waking up to this reality as well.
However, this process won’t play out on its own. It’s going to take a concerted effort from the America First Right and other antiwar elements to move the country in a more non-interventionist direction.
This simply won’t happen on its own.
