San Francisco District Attorney Chesa Boudin Gets Recalled by Voters
San Francisco voters worried about the city’s rising crime rate sighed in relief on the night of June 7, 2022 when District Attorney Chesa Boudin was recalled by voters.
According to a Wall Street Journal report, 61.3% of voters supported Boudin’s recall after roughly 45% of voters were counted.
Boudin is one of numerous quote Soros-funded district attorneys who have de-emphasized incarceration for criminals, refrained from prosecuting violent juveniles as adults, and making it difficult for police to carry out basic law enforcement functions.
The successful recall of Boudin represents a growing movement of voters becoming discontent with the way Boudin has handled violent crime since he assumed office in 2020. In the past two years, voter backlash has been kicking off as violent crime has skyrocketed in San Francisco and other metro areas across the nation.
The recall campaign branded Boudin as being soft on crime and cited “persistent petty theft, drug use and homelessness” as negative aspects of Boudin’s tenure as district attorney.
Since Boudin assumed office in January 2020, burglaries have increased 45% over the past two years and homicides have increased by 37% over this timeframe.
Boudin’s parents were members of the Weather Underground, a leftist terrorist organization. They carried out a robbery in tandem with the Black Liberation Army where the latter killed two New York police officers and a Brink’s truck guard.
Bill Ayers, the founder of the Weather Underground, raised Boudin. At one point in his life, Ayer found himself on the FBI’s Most Wanted list for the Weather Underground’s involvement in several bombings of public buildings.
Boudin’s defeat shows the value of local political activity. Even in the bluest of cities, angry voters rallying around the issue of crime can unseat a negligent incumbent.
Right-wing populists should take note and try to replicate San Francisco’s success and knock off more soft on crime DAs and replace them with certified law and order champions.
