Sanctuary States are Sheltering Criminal Illegal Aliens from Deportation

According to data that KRDO 13 published, sanctuary states have been shielding criminal illegal aliens from arrest and deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents.
John Binder of Breitbart News noted that California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington are among the United States’ largest sanctuary states. In effect, these states are implementing policies that prevent local law enforcement from working with ICE, thereby allowing illegal aliens to live in the US without fear of deportation.
KRDO 13 published an exclusive report by the Colorado Department of Corrections that revealed the extent to which the state’s sanctuary policy has made it impossible to carry out any meaningful form of immigration enforcement. Binder observed that “ICE agents do not bother with issuing detainers for illegal alien inmates as officials are not allowed to honor such detainers.”
The detainers instruct law enforcement officials to detain illegal aliens until ICE agents assume their custody and place them in federal detention until their deportation proceedings commence.
Since 2009, per the KRDO 13 report, ICE detainers placed on illegal alien inmates in Colorado Department of Corrections custody have fallen from 1,300 in 2009 to fewer than 530 in December.
It’s not just border security that must be addressed, but also interior immigration enforcement. There are countless jurisdictions that make it impossible for the federal government to carry out interior enforcement. Not only are these illegal aliens who are treated with impunity in sanctuary jurisdictions allowed to live in tranquility, but they can also scatter into the American interior and terrorize red states.
A serious Republican administration would make sure to punish sanctuary cities and states by cutting off federal funds to them and fining them for their policy dereliction. Mass illegal immigration affects the entire country and any jurisdiction that facilitates this nation-destroy process should be punished severely.
