Senate Democrats Are Pushing for Bill to Prohibit Blueprints for 3D Printed Firearms

Democrats in the United States Senate are calling for a vote on legislation— the 3D Printed Gun Safety Act of 2023 — which prohibits the dissemination of 3D printer plans for firearms.
The bill reads as follows:
3D printing allows individuals to make their own firearms out of plastic, they may be able to evade detection by metal detectors at security checkpoints, increasing the risk that a firearm will be used to perpetrate violence on an airplane or other area where people congregate.
Democrats pushing the legislation called attention to the June 7, 2013, Santa Monica College shooting to argue for passing this legislation, highlighting that the attacker used a homemade firearm. That said, they do not attempt to assert it was a plastic firearm. As AWR Hawkins of Breitbart News noted, “the gun was an AR-15 built out of parts from various sources”
Nevertheless, Democrats allude to the homemade AR-15 in their legislation to ban the dissemination of 3D print files.
The bill notes the lack of serial numbers on 3D printed firearms, highlighting that it is something that Democrats can’t tolerate due to how it means government agencies can’t track the firearm’s locations.
The bill language stated:
Firearms tracing is a powerful investigative tool. When law enforcement agencies recover firearms that have been used in crimes, the agencies work with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to trace these firearms to their first retail purchaser. The agencies can use that information to investigate and solve the crimes. In 2019 alone, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives traced and recovered 269,250 firearms.
On top of that, the stated the following, “The proliferation of 3D-printed firearms threatens to undermine the entire Federal firearms regulatory scheme.”
3D printed firearms and other permutations of homemade firearms are a bete noire for the Left who want to micromanage all personal affairs. Naturally, gun owners should oppose all of these tyrannical schemes as they represent another attempt by Gun Control Inc. to undermine the right to bear arms.
