Senate Republican Puts Forward Bill to Erect Border Wall
On February 14, 2023, North Carolina Senator Ted Budd introduced the Build the Wall Now Act. The bill mandates border wall construction to resume within 24 hours. According to Joe Chatham, the Senior Government Relations Manager at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR), the bill “would also free up more than $2 billion in previously appropriated funds and clear legal roadblocks holding up construction.”
This bill is already gathering support from other Republican leaders. For example, Indiana Congressman Jim Banks introduced companion legislation in the House. Budd issued the following statement: “President Biden has created the worst border crisis in American history. Instead of taking steps to solve this crisis, the Biden administration has tried to run out the regulatory clock on border wall construction.”
Once President Joe Biden was installed in office, he immediately upon taking office, President Biden freezed all funding for the border wall. He argued that the border wall does not represent a serious solution and diverts funds and government resources away from other alternatives which have yet to manifest themselves so far under Biden’s regime.
Chatman noted that Biden is “hiding behind environmental and Endangered Species Act reviews that often drag on for years” so that it can “run out the five-year clock on the $6 billion in funding that Congress appropriated for border wall construction in fiscal years 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021.” Up until the present, $2.1 billion of those funds have not been spent.
The United States is currently facing a massive border crisis, with over 5.5 million illegal aliens having penetrated the southern border in the past two years.
Chatham observed that “In just the last three months of 2022 alone, border patrol agents encountered roughly 718,000 illegal crossers, including 38 on the terror watchlist.
Banks offered his two cents on the matter: “[F]or the same reason that Joe Biden had a fence put up around his State of the Union address, we need to finish building the wall on our southern border to keep American families and communities safe.”
Indeed, a border wall is needed to halt this mass migration Zerg Rush. However, it’s not enough. There needs to be a full-blown immigration moratorium, abolition of birthright citizenship and chain migration, and the implementation of E-Verify, among other full measures to get the immigration question right. If we fail here, kiss America goodbye, folks.
