Several Republicans are Accusing Venezuela of Emptying it’s Prisons and Dumping Criminals Stateside

14 Republican members of the United States House are accusing Venezuela of purposefully releasing prisoners, which includes violent criminals.

As a result of these criminal aliens reaching the US’s southern border with Mexico, the aforementioned Republican elected officials have penned a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas to bring up this matter.

Texas Congressman Troy Nehls is leading the way in trying to get answers from Mayorkas.

According to Frank Fang of The Epoch Times, this letter was sent on September 22, 2022 to Mayorkas. In the letter, the Republican House members declared that the regime of Venezuelan strongman Nicolás Maduro has put the US “in grave danger.”

“We write you with serious concern about a recent U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) intelligence report received by Border Patrol that instructs agents to look for violent criminals from Venezuela among the migrant caravans heading towards the U.S.-Mexico border,” the letter read.

The letter cited a report by Breitbart for its assertions. Breitbart reported back on September 18 that it looked over the DHS intelligence report from an unnamed source within the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). The report cautioned about the dangers of released prisoners from Venezuela, which included individuals convicted of crimes ranging from extortion, murder, and rape. These inmates have allegedly been spotted traveling within migrant caravans traveling from Tapachula, Mexico, to the southern border, as early as July.

In addition, the report stated that the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (SEBIN),Venezuela’s intelligence agency, may have helped facilitate this prisoner release.

“DHS confirms that Venezuela empties prisons and sends violent criminals to our southern border,” Nehls declared on Twitter. “President Trump warned us about this years ago.”

Nehls later commented on the Breitbart report during an interview with Fox News contributor Sara Carter on Sunday.

“This bombshell report confirms what we’ve known for years,” Nehls said during an interview with Fox News’ Sara Carter. “Our adversaries despise what America stands for and take pride in emptying their prisons filled with the most violent and sick individuals to walk the earth and send them to our southern border, where they know they’ll have no trouble getting in.”

Nehls continued, “Our overworked border patrol agents can only do so much when President [Joe] Biden gives everyone a no-strings-attached invitation into this country.”

This letter comes against the backdrop of a massive influx of migrants crossing the US-Mexico border. Per CBP data, the number of migrants arriving at the southern border in the fiscal year 2022 exceeded 2 million in August.

There were shocking  numbers of foreign invaders coming from Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela.

According to the letter, there have been over 130,000 encounters with Venezuelan nationals from October 2021 to July 2022.

“As a result of the Biden Administration’s disastrous border policies, it is unknown how many of the violent Venezuelan prisoners have been released into the interior of the U.S., as identifying Venezuelans with criminal records is nearly impossible unless the individual admits their records to U.S. authorities,” the letter stated. “This will undoubtedly put our country in grave danger.”

The 14 Republicans are calling on Mayorkas to answer over 10 questions, which includes the safety measures DHS is implementing to prevent the aforementioned Venezuelan criminals from breaking into the United States.

“Have any of the Venezuelan nationals encountered at the southern border this year been suspected to be released prisoners?”the representatives asked in one of the questions. “Does DHS have a projected headcount of how many released Venezuelan prisoners are expected to enter the U.S.?”

A separate question asked, “Do you have reason to believe that the release of the convicts could be a purposeful geopolitical move specifically intended to impact U.S. national security?”

“We need transparency and accountability from this administration,” Nehls concluded on Twitter.

Venezuela is an abject failure. Its experiment with socialism has created a collapsed economy and has put the country firmly on the path to failed state status.

While foreign policy restraint should be used when dealing with Venezuela, the US must still maintain strong border control and immigration policies when dealing with its migrants.

If these reports end up being true, Venezuela is likely taking a page out of the Cuban playbook. Namely, when Fidel Castro emptied out Cuba’s prisons and sent over thousands of criminals and other individuals in mental institutions to the states.

Mass migration is more than just a movement of people, it can be used as a geopolitical weapon and a tool for authoritarian regimes to dump their miscreants on other countries. For that reason, our border must always be shut and sheltered from the instability that’s characteristic of the Global South.
