Shopify Kicks Donald Trump Stores Off Its Platform

Shopify recently took down shops connected to Trump campaign paraphernalia and president Trump’s personal brand after controversial protests took place in Washington D.C.

“Shopify does not tolerate actions that incite violence. Based on recent events, we have determined that the actions by President Donald J. Trump violate our Acceptable Use Policy, which prohibits promotion or support of organizations, platforms or people that threaten or condone violence to further a cause,” a Shopify spokesperson said in a written statement sent to TechCrunch. “As a result, we have terminated stores affiliated with President Trump.”

The Wall Street Journal first reported this move, which marked a significant change for the company. In a prior occasion, the company defended individuals’ rights to use the platform and separated itself from other companies that engaged in acts of censorship. CEO Tobias Lütke uniquely positioned Shopify as a pro-free speech company and wrote a letter in 2017 (that is currently deleted) in which he stated that “commerce is a powerful, underestimated form of expression.”

However, the company’s pro-free speech profile changed in 2018 after it decided to kick off several right-wing organizations from its platform. These included stores connected to the Proud Boys, who have been present demonstrating out on the streets in support of Trump over the last few months.

With the consolidation of the woke state, companies and government agencies will be working in synergy to destroy any form of meaningful opposition on the Right. Trump’s stores are only just the beginning. With Biden being installed as president, such action will likely be going into overdrive.

Woke corporations will give the political establishment a privatized arm of behavior enforcement, while also letting culturally leftist ideas permeate through all corners of society. America may be on the cusp of a dangerous transformation that will forever change the nature of the country’s politics.

The time to fight back is now.
