Teachers Union Wants To Dismantle ICE Through Divestment

In 2017, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) made 143,470 administrative arrests of illegal aliens, including a shocking 92% that had criminal convictions, pending convictions, or were ICE fugitives. While most Americans applaud the work of ICE, radical anarchist street mobs demand the abolishment of our only dedicated interior immigration law enforcement…ICE.  But could the schools and teachers’ union membership also be part of the radical anarchist left? Let’s review recent actions by the country’s second-largest teachers union, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), and you can decide.

A recent call by AFT to divest its public pension funds from ICE-contracted private contractors housing detained illegal aliens leaves little room for questioning its members’ values. AFT concluded “…that all pension funds should…not [be] put to risk by investing in companies that profit off the unjust detainment of immigrant youth and families.”  That should come as no big surprise to anyone who knows anything about AFT’s president Ms. Randi Weingarten, a member of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) who was once a superdelegate pledged to Hillary Clinton for President.  The Weingarten-led AFT also endorsed Hillary Clinton in Clinton’s humiliating 2016 campaign for President, and has recently aligned itself with over 3 dozen open borders propagandist groups.  Ms. Weingarten is married to Rabbi Sharon Kleinbaum.

So, it’s “divestment” they want. Divestment is simply a thinly veiled attempt to dismantle ICE by attacking its partners in the fight to secure our communities. Approximately seventy percent of ICE detainees, of which there are thousands of criminals, are held in private facilities.  So, AFT and its membership, are effectively calling for the release of potentially another 143,000 dangerous alien criminals in 2018 and every year thereafter.

So, what is ICE and why is it important?  Created in 2003 as part of a massive reorganization of federal agencies in the wake of 9/11, ICE protects our citizenry by chasing down, arresting and deporting thousands of dangerous aliens who cross our borders illegally every day. Top among ICE’s priorities is targeting illegal aliens who have previous criminal records and pose a threat to public safety. The sheer volume of illegal border crossers who have criminal records—in our country or their native one—is staggering.

And then, there is AFT’s “Big Lie” about how it cares for its students’ safety. By purposely undermining the very fabric of interior law enforcement that ICE affords us, AFT exposes itself as pretending to care about the safety of students. How do we know? Let’s read AFT’s mission statement, as displayed on its own website.  It states that the union “…champions fairness; democracy; economic opportunity; and high-quality public education, healthcare and public services for our students, their families and our communities…”

Notice that “quality public education” is at the bottom of AFT’s pathetic mission.   And the “safety” of students?  Well, that’s not even mentioned!  Which begs the question: Are they really teachers, or are they social justice warriors for the one-world-order tyrants of the left?  (Do not chastise yourself when feeling great sadness and anger in the answer to that question. You need that to affect change.)

AFT and its teachers ignore the fact that illegal aliens are more likely to commit crimes than citizens and legal immigrants, leaving our children to pay the terrible price without recourse, voiceless to remove themselves from their vulnerable situation.  The last thing our children need is a politically-driven attack, like the dishonest one AFT is leveling to hamstring ICE’s ability to do its job. And now you know the truth.

Since 2009, The Remembrance Project has been advocating for those who have been permanently separated from their families, and to save American lives from being unnecessarily stolen by those who have illegally entered our country with ill intent or dangerous histories. Many of these “stolen lives” are our children, our country’s promising future. Teachers must recognize that undermining the efforts of federal law enforcement undermines the well-being of the very kids they purport to want to help.
