Texas Lawmaker Announces ‘Texit’ Bill That Would Allow Lone Star State to Leave the Union
A Texas state representative is working on legislation that would allow Texans to vote on a Brexit-style referendum to leave the Union and become a stand-alone nation.
Republican state representative Kyle Biedermann of Fredericksburg announced in a social media post on Tuesday that he is crafting a ‘Texit’ bill that would put secession on the ballot in Texas.
“The federal government is out of control and does not represent the values of Texans. That is why I am committing to file legislation this session that will allow a referendum to give Texans a vote for the State of Texas to reassert its status as an independent nation,” Biedermann wrote.
While Biedermann’s idea may be unconventional in this day and age, his legislation seems to be congruent with the plain text of the Texas state constitution.
Article 1, Section 1 of the Texas state constitution reads: “Texas is a free and independent State, subject only to the Constitution of the United States, and the maintenance of our free institutions and the perpetuity of the Union depend upon the preservation of the right of local self-government, unimpaired to all the States.”
Article 1, Section 2 could be read as an endorsement of sorts for secession: “All political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted for their benefit. The faith of the people of Texas stands pledged to the preservation of a republican form of government, and, subject to this limitation only, they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient.”
Additionally, the Texas Republican Party has a plank that includes an explicit endorsement for the right of their free state to secede from the Union.
“Pursuant to Article 1, Section 1, of the Texas Constitution, the federal government has impaired our right of local self-government. Therefore, federally mandated legislation that infringes upon the 10th Amendment rights of Texas should be ignored, opposed, refused, and nullified,” the platform states in its 65th plank.
“Texas retains the right to secede from the United States should a future president and congress change our political system from a constitutional republic to any other system,” the document states.
Big League Politics has reported on how Texas is leading the way in the fight against the Orwellian tyranny tha is sweeping over the U.S., including the heroic stand by patriotic salon owner Shelley Luther against asinine COVID mandates:
After the governor and attorney general intervened on her behalf, Dallas, Tex. salon owner Shelley Luther will be freed from jail per an order from the state supreme court…
Tex. Governor Greg Abbott and Attorney General Ken Paxton sprung into action after Luther was sentenced to a week in jail by an Obama-crony judge for opening her salon against government edicts.
“I find it outrageous and out of touch that during this national pandemic, a judge, in a county that actually released hardened criminals for fear of contracting COVID-19, would jail a mother for operating her hair salon in an attempt to put food on her family’s table,” Paxton said.
“The trial judge did not need to lock up Shelley Luther. His order is a shameful abuse of judicial discretion, which seems like another political stunt in Dallas. He should release Ms. Luther immediately,” he added.
“Compliance with executive orders during this pandemic is important to ensure public safety,” Abbott said in a statement on Wednesday. “However, surely there are less restrictive means to achieving that goal than jailing a Texas mother.”
“Throwing Texans in jail who have had their businesses shut down through no fault of their own is nonsensical, and I will not allow it to happen,” Abbott explained. “That is why I am modifying my executive orders to ensure confinement is not a punishment for violating an order.”
If the vote steal cannot be overturned, secession must become a mainstream option for conservatives who have had enough of leftist treason.
