The Biden Regime Floats “Temporary” Amnesty to Over 15,000 Ethiopians in The United States

The Biden regime recently redesignated and extended a temporary amnesty program to over 15,000 Ethiopian nationals residing in the United States who would otherwise be deported.
On April 12, 2024, Department of Homeland Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for roughly 15,100 Ethiopians in the US who can obtain work permits, work American jobs, and be protected from deportation.
“Temporary Protected Status provides individuals already present in the United States with protection from removal when conditions in their home country prevent their safe return,” DHS Secretary Mayorkas proclaimed in a statement:
That is the situation facing Ethiopians who arrived here on or before April 11 of this year. We are granting them protection through this temporary form of humanitarian relief that the law provides.
Roughly 2,300 Ethiopians in the US can keep their TPS designation and extend it through December 2025, whereas an additional 12,800 Ethiopians will become eligible for TPS to stay in the country provided that they tell DHS officials they have resided in the country since April 11 or prior.
On top of thar, Mayorkas made an announcement about so-called “Special Student Relief” for Ethiopians who are in the US on F-1 student visas, “so that eligible students may request employment authorization, work an increased number of hours while school is in session, and reduce their course load while continuing to maintain F-1 status through the TPS designation period.”
TPS was initially created under the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1990 (INA) and bars federal immigration officials from deporting aliens from countries that are deemed as going through famine, war, or natural disasters.
Ever since the Clinton regime, TPS has morphed into a de facto amnesty program as the Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and currently Biden administrations have repeatedly resurrected the program for sacral countries.
According to data from Breitbart, there are roughly 1.2 million foreign nationals in the US on TPS. This is just another scheme that the Biden regime is using to promote mass migration.
Biden and co recognize that the regime can’t import migrants en masse through conventional legislative means. So they’re turning to all forms of administrative trickery to go about doing this.
