The Biden Regime is Trying to Achieve a Ceasefire in Gaza

On February 26, 2024, United States President Joe Biden announced that a truce and prisoner release deal in Gaza is “close.” He manifested hope that an agreement will be hammered out in the next week.

“Well, I hope by the beginning of the weekend. The end of the weekend. My national security adviser tells me that we’re close. We’re close. We’re not done yet,” Biden told reporters on February 26.

“And my hope is that by next Monday [March 4] we’ll have a ceasefire,” the president continued.

Biden made the comments as he was eating ice cream at a store in New York with comedian Seth Meyers, who had just hosted the president on his show.

“Ramadan’s coming up and there has been an agreement by the Israelis that they would not engage in activities during Ramadan as well, in order to give us time to get all the hostages out,” Biden said at a filming of the Late-Night episode.

“They have to and they have made a commitment to me that they’re going to see to it that there’s an ability to evacuate significant portions of Rafah before they go and take out the remainder of Hamas. But it’s a process,” he continued, asserting that Israel has allegedly dialed down its brutal aerial campaign of the city.

An American official stated on February 26 that US negotiators were working hard to get a deal hammered out by the start of Ramadan on March 10.

“We believe a deal is possible and we hope Hamas will agree to one. We need Hamas to say yes,” stated State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

During recent talks between Egypt, Israeli, Qatari, and American officials, the mediators reportedly agreed on an “outline” for an exchange  and truce deal. This recent proposal hinted at the release of 40 Israeli prisoners in exchange for hundreds of Palestinian prisoners and a pause in fighting that will last six weeks.

Hamas has firmly stood by its position of bringing the war to an end and demanding a withdrawal of Israeli occupation forces from Gaza.

A senior Israeli official revealed to Hebrew news outlet Channel 12 that the latest framework “does not correspond with Hamas demands.” He also noted that there are “red lines” that would be unacceptable to Israeli authorities.

“The atmosphere of optimism that an agreement … will soon be reached does not reflect the truth. Killing our people by starvation in the north is a genocidal crime that threatens the entire negotiation process,” a source who is among Hamas leadership said to Al-Jazeera on February 25.

Such negotiations are pointless. Israel will do as it pleases as long as the American money and military aid continue to flow.

The way to achieve peace here is for the US to stop sending aid to Israel and get out of this conflict altogether.
