The Federal Swamp Goes After Trump Administration’s DHS Appointees, Declares Wolf and Cuccinelli ‘Invalid’

The Government Accountability Office (GAO), which claims to be nonpartisan, is attacking Acting Homeland Security Secretary Chad Wolf and Acting Deputy Secretary Ken Cuccinelli, declaring that they are “ineligible” to serve in the Trump administration.

The GAO claims that an improper succession took place after Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen resigned in April 2019. Kevin McAleenan took over for Nielsen and he supposedly changed the succession for other officials to succeed him after he left the position.

“When Secretary Nielsen issued the April Delegation, she only amended Annex A, placing the Commissioner of U.S. Customs and Border Protection as the next position in the order of succession in cases of the Secretary’s unavailability to act during a disaster or catastrophic emergency,” the GAO found.

“Because the incorrect official assumed the title of Acting Secretary at that time, subsequent amendments to the order of succession made by that official were invalid and officials who assumed their positions under such amendments, including Chad Wolf and Kenneth Cuccinelli, were named by reference to an invalid order of succession,” GAO’s general counsel Thomas Armstrong concluded.

The GAO is urging the inspector general of the Department of Homeland Security to take action based on their recommendations. They even hint that decisions made by Wolf and Cuccinelli to defend the nation from domestic and foreign threats could be overturned. A DHS spokesman has dismissed the GAO’s complaint.

“We wholeheartedly disagree with the GAO’s baseless report,” the spokesman said.

The GAO essentially did the bidding of House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson (D-MS) and House Oversight Committee Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), who have urged the inspector general to “immediately and swiftly review the legality of actions – which span 16 months – taken by these officials.” They are also demanding for Wolf and Cuccinelli to resign from their current roles within the Trump administration.

Big League Politics has reported on how Wolf has led the Trump administration’s efforts to impose law and order on cities besieged by left-wing riots:

Chad Wolf, the Acting Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, rebuked the activities of left-wing criminal rioters in the city of Portland in a press release issued on Thursday. ANTIFA-affiliated street criminals have rioted for more than 40 consecutive days in the liberal city, causing millions in damages to small businesses and public property and repeatedly attacking a federal courthouse.

“The city of Portland has been under siege for 47 straight days by a violent mob while local political leaders refuse to restore order to protect their city. Each night, lawless anarchists destroy and desecrate property, including the federal courthouse, and attack the brave law enforcement officers protecting it.

A federal courthouse is a symbol of justice – to attack it is to attack America. Instead of addressing violent criminals in their communities, local and state leaders are instead focusing on placing blame on law enforcement and requesting fewer officers in their community. This failed response has only emboldened the violent mob as it escalates violence day after day,” said Secretary Wolf.

Remarkably, the city has opted to blame the federal government for the violence unleashed upon the streets by left-wing riots, with neoliberal mayor Ted Wheeler demanding that U.S. Marshals leave the city or either restrict their presence to the interior of the federal courthouse.

While the Portland Police have been largely called by by liberal city officials hoping to give ANTIFA a free pass, the federal law enforcement presence remains, with agents from a variety of federal agencies continuing to make arrests of violent and destructive left-wing criminals. Seven suspects were arrested in one of the most severe attacks on the Hatfield Federal Courthouse, in which ANTIFA militants deployed the use of crude firework mortar devices against the federal facility.

Wolf went on to slam Portland city officials for their fecklessness in the face of ANTIFA criminality.

“This siege can end if state and local officials decide to take appropriate action instead of refusing to enforce the law. DHS will not abdicate its solemn duty to protect federal facilities and those within them. Again, I reiterate the Department’s offer to assist local and state leaders to bring an end to the violence perpetuated by anarchists.”

The GAO, with their Democrat-prompted nitpicking of the Trump administration, has demonstrated themselves to be another tentacle of the deep state working to undermine the MAGA revival.
