On December 22, 2020, President Donald Trump fully pardoned two former Border Patrol agents. Back in 2007, a federal prosecutor pressed two charges against the two agents. The Border Patrol agents, Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean, were engaged in a shooting incident of a drug smuggler back in 2005. They were sentenced to 11 and 12 years in federal prison, respectively, for shooting and wounding an illegal alien drug smuggler at the southern border in 2005.
“These former Border Patrol Agents have been supported by one hundred members of Congress, including Rep. Louie Gohmert, Rep. Steve King, Rep. Ted Poe, Rep. Paul Gosar, Rep. Brian Babin, as well as the U.S. Border Control Foundation and the Conservative Legal Defense and Education Fund,” the White House declared in a written statement.
The White House continued:
Both men served as Border Patrol Agents and put themselves in harm’s way to help secure our southern border with Mexico. On one such occasion in 2005, they stopped an illegal alien trafficking 700 pounds of marijuana. When the illegal alien—who was thought to be armed—resisted arrest, Mr. Ramos shot the suspect, who fled back across the border. For this, Mr. Ramos and Mr. Compean were charged and convicted of assault, using a firearm during a crime of violence, and deprivation of civil rights. After they were sentenced to 11 and 12 years imprisonment, respectively, their case gained widespread attention.
Breitbart Texas reached out to congressman Brian Babin for his commentary on the matter. He declared, “President Trump made right the grave wrongs committed against Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. As Border Patrol Agents they risked their lives to protect us and secure our southern border before they fell victim to political games. I am thankful that this president stood for justice and finally secured their full pardons.”
After a hearing conducted by the Senate Judiciary Committee and with the backing of 100 members of Congress, then-President George W. Bush ended up commuting their sentence, which led to their release after spending two years in federal prison.
“Mr. Ramos participates in numerous community activities and charities, and Mr. Compean is active in his local church,” the White House continued.
Former Texas Congressman Ted Poe supported the two Border Patrol agents as they were stuck in legal battles. He helped urge Bush to commute their sentences and petitioned then-President Barack Obama to give them a full-fledged pardon in 2009.
“As a former judge and prosecutor for 30 years, I am well-informed of the law and circumstances pertaining to this case,” Poe declared in a 2009 statement. “The severity of the charges and harshness of the punishment given to these men was completely disproportionate to the violation in question. Although they were released early from federal prison, they still have criminal records. This shouldn’t be so.”
“This case has had a demoralizing effect on the men and women who defend America at our border,” Poe asserted. “It sends the wrong message to criminals seeking to do our nation harm. Our border agents must not have hesitation before using their weapons in defense of our laws and borders. The results of this incident are unfortunate, yet the unintended consequences are far-reaching and warrant your immediate intervention to restore safety and security at the border.”
This move is long overdue. A Biden administration would not conceivably carry out these pardons. After all, open borders is the Left’s new religion and anything that assaults the integrity of the nation is welcome by the Democrat Party.
Border Patrol better prepare itself for a constant wave of attacks once Biden is installed as president in January. For the Left, border security is a relic of a reactionary past.
Biden Executive Order Terminates Construction of New Border Wall
President Joe Biden signed an executive order halting the construction of new border wall on the southern border in one of his first actions as President.
The order terminates an emergency proclamation that allowed discretion to divert federal funding towards wall construction.
“The proclamation will direct an immediate pause in wall construction projects to allow a close review of the legal basis for the funding, as well as the contract methods being used, and it will determine the best ways to redirect funds that were diverted by the Trump administration to fund wall construction,” said Biden’s National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan.
The termination of wall construction comes as a Central American caravan numbering in the thousands travels through Honduras and Guatemala, with the intention of securing immigration amnesty from President Biden. The leaders of the caravan have cited Biden’s left-wing immigration promises as the imperative for its formation, demanding he honor what they see as promises of admittance.
Drug-cartel human smugglers are already chomping at the bit at the idea of resuming illegal immigration smuggling en masse during Biden’s presidency, assured that they’ll have free reign to infiltrate America’s borders in a manner akin to the state of affairs under previous establishment Presidents.
Biden also signed Trump’s executive order overturning a travel ban from several high-risk nations. Another executive order re-enrolls the United States into the globalist Paris Climate Accords, which mandates strict carbon emissions curbs on the United States without imposing similar requirements on China.
