Trump Tweet: “I am Strongly Considering a Pardon of General Flynn”

In a tweet Sunday afternoon President Donald Trump said that he is strongly considering a full pardon for General Michael Flynn after it appears that the FBI and Justice Department may have lost the files and records on the retired general who served as national security adviser to the President.

In what appears to be a causality of the “witch hunt” against President Trump, General Flynn was originally charged by special counsel Robert Mueller, who was investigating Russian interference in the 2016 election and any links between the Trump campaign members and Russia.

Under pressure from special counsel Mueller’s office he pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about the nature of his conversations with the Russian ambassador prior to President Trump’s inauguration.

In January of this year the retired general sought to withdraw his guilty plea, arguing that prosecutors violated his rights and duped him into a plea agreement.

In July 2016, it was reported General Flynn was being considered as Trump’s running mate; he later confirmed that he had submitted vetting documents to the Trump campaign and, although a registered Democrat, was willing to accept the vice-presidential nomination if chosen.

After retiring from the United States Army after thirty three years of service, Flynn became a leading voice of opposition to the failed policies of President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, particularly those policies concerning America’s involvement in the battle against the Islamic State in the Middle East.

At speech at the Republican National Convention in 2016 Flynn said, “Tonight Americans stand as one with strength and confidence to overcome the last eight years of the Obama-Clinton failures. Such as bubbling indecisiveness, willful ignorance, and total incompetence that has challenged the very heart and soul of every American….We are tired of Obama’s empty speeches and his misguided rhetoric. This, this has caused the world to have no respect for America’s word, nor does it fear our might”.
