From NBC News:
“Trump is probably coming back to Twitter. It’s just a question of how and when,” said a Republican who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss private conversations with Trump about returning to the platform. “He’s been talking about it for weeks, but Trump speaks for Trump, so it’s anyone’s guess what he’ll do or say or when.”
Another Trump confidant who also didn’t want to be identified speaking about conversations with him said that Trump has sought input for weeks about hopping back on Twitter and that his campaign advisers have also workshopped ideas for his first tweet.
Trump, who recently announced he is running for President again in 2024, likely realizes his campaign’s chances are seriously hindered without Facebook and Twitter.
He has been active on Truth Social, his own social media network, but even with the platform’s large audience, it is hardly enough exposure for someone with a Presidential election on the line.
Though Trump’s Twitter account was reinstated by Elon Musk back in November, the 2024 Presidential candidate has not yet tweeted. Even though many people have been anxiously waiting for his return.
In April, months prior to the account’s reinstatement, Trump made the point that he would not rejoin Twitter even if Elon Musk invited him back.
This report from NBC News shows the Trump campaign is likely its changing course on this boycott of Twitter stance.
More from the outlet:
Another Trump adviser, who has spoken with him about Facebook and shared the gist of the private conversation with NBC News on condition of anonymity, said that his campaign believes Facebook will ultimately honor the two-year ban and reinstate him but that it’s prepared to engage with House Republicans who control the lower chamber of Congress to advocate on Trump’s behalf and pressure Meta. The adviser said Congress is likely to examine Section 230 of the federal law affecting social media companies.
From the report, it’s apparent that Trump is being very careful. But at the same time, he is giving his possible reemergence on Facebook and Twitter a lot of thought.
The comeback tweet from Trump that many people have been longing for could be right around the corner. Only time will tell.
