UK Doctor “Sacked” For Saying Gender Is Determined At Birth

A practicing NHS doctor of 26 years has just been fired for refusing to renounce his Christian belief that gender is determined at birth.

Dr. David Mackereth was told he was “unfit”to be employed at the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) office in Dudley, as a disability assessor if he was not able to identify patients as the sex they felt, rather than the sex they were assigned at birth.

The 55-year-old father of four stands by his belief that sex is biological and genetic, and hence, established at birth.  Mackereth claims that not being allowed to work for the department, based on his religious beliefs is a violation of his freedom of speech.

After registering as a doctor in 1989, he spent the majority of his career working in Accident & Emergency wards. Dr. Mackereth told The Telegraph,: “I’m not attacking the transgender movement. But, I’m defending my right to freedom of speech, and freedom of belief.” He continued, “I don’t believe I should be compelled to use a specific pronoun. I am not setting out to upset anyone. But, if upsetting someone can lead to doctors being sacked then, as a society we have to examine where we are going.”

The Reformed Baptist started a training course this past May to become a health and disability assessor for the DWP. His position would require him to interview and report independent reports regarding the health of those seeking to claim disability benefits. A discussion erupted amongst the medics about the “fluid” nature of gender when his instructor informed him that all reports must only refer to the “client”-or patient-by the sex that person identified themselves as, rather than their sex at the time of birth.

When Dr. Mackereth expressed his beliefs, based in both religious beliefs as well as his belief that gender is determined by genetics and biology, it did not sit well with his tutor.

“I said that I had a problem with this. I believe that gender is defined by biology and genetics. And that as a Christian the Bible teaches us that God made humans male or female. I could have kept my mouth shut. But, it was the right time to raise it,” Mackereth said. “The tutor took me aside and said he had passed my comments up the chain to the DWP.”

Shortly after the discussion, Dr. Mackereth received an email from the agency that employed him and that would have hired him out to the DWP, Advanced Personnel Management (APM).

The email explained that Dr. Mackereth would be able to undergo training regarding the policy set by the department, but that any contact with clients and/or any report on said clients, the doctor should refer to them in their chosen sex or it “could be considered to be harassment as defined by the 2010 Equality Act”, and that DWP had already consulted lawyers.

Mackereth replied that “in good conscience” he would not be able to conform to the demands set by the department, and the contract between them was immediately terminated.

A spokeswoman for DWP stated that the Equality Act considers it unlawful to indirectly or directly discriminate against anyone on the grounds of a “protected characteristic”, such as gender reassignment.

For thousands of years, there has been no dispute that only two genders exist. What’s changed? In Genesis 1:27 (KJV) it reads: “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

In a column written for the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City, Archbishop Paul S. Coakley stated, “Gender ideology is the next tsunami that threatens to sweep away centuries of accepted human wisdom about the complementarity and real differences between men and women.” He continues, “These differences are not merely about self-expression and personal choice. Science, philosophy, theology and the accumulated wisdom of every culture have recognized that these differences are rooted in something real and objective. They’re rooted in biology, and more fundamentally, they’re rooted in the design of the Creator.”

Dr. Mackereth told The Telegraph: “Firstly, we are not allowed to say what we believe. Secondly, as my case shows, we are not allowed to think what we believe. Finally, we are not allowed to defend what we believe. By stating what has been believed by mankind for centuries-namely the gender and sex are determined at birth-you can come under ferocious attack. If we are no longer allowed to say that you believe sex and gender are the same and are determined at birth, everyone who holds my views can be sacked on the spot under this Act. I’m not an isolated case.”

Lesbian Activist Trashes Trans Fad: ‘Biology is Not a Social Construct’

Some of the letters in the LGBT community are not feeling so communal if a prominent lesbian activist and Army Staff Sergeant is to be believed.

“I have spent every day of my life since that time advocating for the marginalized and oppressed, especially sexual minorities,” wrote Miriam Ben-Shalom in The Federalist. “I’ve organized rallies, shown up and stood up wherever injustice was allowed to flourish. I’ve twice chained myself to the White House fence and engaged in non-violent civil disobedience to protest the ban on LGB people in the military. I’ve risked jail time and criminal charges on behalf of my brothers and sisters in the LGB community.”

Ben-Shalom was originally honorably discharged from the Army for homosexuality, but was the first person re-instated after such a discharge in 1988, which she describes as one of the proudest moments of her life.

But things aren’t completely hunky-dory for the lesbian activist right now. Though she believes that transgender people deserve respect and ought not to be discriminated against, it is clear that Ben-Shalom thinks the movement has gone too far.

“[I] ought not to be expected to believe that by some magic and lots of surgeries and chemicals that a man can be a woman and a woman a man,” she wrote. “I, and all woman and children, should not have to put up with the shenanigans of those who insist that biology is ‘a social construct’ but gender ‘is innate in a person’ when the exact opposite is true.”

Ironically, Ben-Shalom’s views on the subject are so controversial that she was forced to publish her op-ed in the socially conservative Federalist.

She also knocked the growing trend of parents forcing transgenderism on their children.

“Children should not be experimented upon by infusing them with puberty blockers to keep them from growing up,” she said. “Children should not be operated upon and have body parts removed because they ‘feel’ they are something other than what they are, should not be subjected to a lifetime of ill health because of Big Pharma’s chemicals.”

Ben-Shalom said that lesbian women should not be accused of “transphobia” for refusing to sleep with biological males who “identify” as transgender females, and that the law should not protect transgender females who want to use men’s bathrooms and locker rooms.

“Do you understand now why this is not about trans humans being discriminated against, but is about something much more horrible and revolting: the chemical sterilization of children, the denial of basic human rights to women and children, and the erasure of women? Do you still wonder why we do not want the law to allow such people in our spaces?”
