United States Attacks Hungary’s Foreign Policy for Being “Pro-Putin”

United States ambassador to Hungary David Pressman recently declared that Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán is carrying out a “fantasy foreign policy” that advances the interests of Russia and creates divisions within the NATO military alliance.
During an interview with the Financial Times, David Pressman noted that the Hungarian government’s approach to foreign policy was predicated on “imagined invaders” and a “fantasized Hungarophobia”. Pressman argued that his foreign policy advances Orbán’s domestic agenda, “but at the end of the day, it’s a fantasy.”
On top of that, he criticized Orbán for “actively participating” in the 2024 US presidential election through his open support for Donald Trump and demanded that President Joe Biden step down, stating it was “not something we expect from allies”.
The Hungarian government’s decision to exercise a multi-vector foreign policy, where it courts major actors such as China and Russia, has left it “more isolated and more alone than it has been in a very long time”, he proclaimed.
Pressman’s remarks reflect a growing frustration among NATO and EU leaders with Orban’s attempts to roadblock continued EU aid to Ukraine and his efforts to derail the ratification of Sweden’s accession into NATO. EU and NATO mandarins have also been perturbed by Hungary’s alleged anti-democratic drift.
On January 23, 2024, Hungary became the last country that hasn’t ratified Sweden’ membership after Turkey’s elected officials voted to approve it. Orbán says he is in favor of Sweden’s NATO membership application but invited Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson to Budapest to “negotiate”.
Orbán has thrown a massive wrench into the globalist’s plots to continue the proxy war against Russia in Ukraine by vetoing a €50 billion four-year aid plan in December.
Pressman stated: “When you look at Hungary’s foreign policy, whether it be suggesting raising questions about Ukraine’s EU accession, stymying efforts to provide financial support to Ukraine, meeting with Vladimir Putin, resisting efforts to diversify off of Russian energy, resisting sustained efforts to close Kremlin platforms inside of Hungary, all of these have something in common. And it’s something that is leaving Hungary more isolated from its partners within Nato and its partners within the EU.”
He added: “These policy choices, without question, are helpful to Putin and harmful to careful efforts to keep the alliance and our partners together in standing up in the face of his aggression.”
The ambassador continued by noting that “Kremlin propaganda and disinformation” was being “routinely” disseminated by Hungarian media controlled or supported by the government.
Orbán has forged a de facto alliance with the populist Right in the US as evidenced by the Hungarian Prime Minister’s participation in several pro-Trump events in recent years, appearing at yearly meetings of the Conservative Political Action Committee (CPAC) both in the US and in Hungary, where he gave a pro-Trump speech.
“I am sure that if President Trump were president, then today Ukraine and Europe would not be stricken by any kind of war,” he declared. “Come back, Mr President! Make America great again, and bring us peace!”
Trump reciprocated by praising Orban’s strong leadership. “Some people don’t like him because he is too strong,” he said at a campaign speech in New Hampshire. “It’s nice to have a strong man running your country.”
.The US leadership class hates Hungary for the simple fact that it acts like a rational sovereign nation that opposes globalist schemes such as mass migration and cultural degeneracy. For that reason, color revolutions will always be on deck for Hungary.
