United States Congressman Likens IRS Raid of Montana Gun Store to Soviet Behavior
Following Internal Revenue Service (IRS) agents’ raid of a Montana gun shop in Great Falls, Montana, Congressman Matt Rosendale called on the Biden regime to provide answers about this incident.
“This event is another example of President Biden weaponizing federal agencies to target and harass hardworking Americans for exercising their constitutional rights,” Rosendale declared in a letter directed to higher-ups of the Internal Revenue Service and Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
On the morning of June 14, 2023, 20 armed federal agents raided Highwood Creek Outfitters as its owner Tom Van Hoose arrived at the store, per KRTV a report.
IRS agents seized background check forms from the store that featured sensitive personal information about all individuals who have purchased a firearm at the store. Rosendale described the IRS’s behavior as an “egregious breach of privacy” that “showed no regard for federal law.”
“There is no circumstance in which 4473s would be necessary in an investigation spearheaded by the IRS,” Rosendale asserted in a letter directed to ATF Director Steven Dettelbach and IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel.
Rosendale called on the ATF and IRS to “cease conducting these Soviet-style intimidation raids.” On top of that, he crafted a list of questions about what motivated the IRS to take such action. Rosendale gave the IRS a June 23 deadline for the response.
Van Hoose claimed that state and federal agencies have surveilled the store over the last two years. He believes that the Biden regime’s actions are not spontaneous in nature. In fact, he believes that they are part of a broader plant to destroy gun rights.
“The current administration seems hell bent on getting those guns out of the hands of average Americans,” Van Hoose declared, making a reference to the style of firearms he sells.
While Van Hoose conceded that while the agents were polite and professional, he still felt “invaded” and lost almost a whole day of business.
“Given the positions of the Biden Administration, this raid appears to be an attempt to intimidate firearms dealers and owners,” Rosendale declared in his letter to ATF and IRS leaders.
“This pattern [of intimidation and harassment] appears to be orchestrated directly from the White House,” Rosendale remarked.
“The weaponization of our government must be STOPPED, which is why I sent a letter to ATF Director Dettelbach and IRS Commissioner Werfel demanding answers about this outrageous attack, and have used every tool available to me to remove funding for the 87,000 additional IRS agents!” Rosendale said in a Facebook post published on June 16.
On June 14, Rosendale replied to initial reports of the investigation remarking he was “incredibly disturbed” about the ATF and IRS reportedly shutting down Highwood Creek Outfitters without prior notice.
“This is yet another example of the Biden Administration weaponizing federal agencies to target and harass hardworking Americans,” Rosendale tweeted on June 14.
The ATF and IRS are goonish agencies that must be punished for their political misbehavior. In an ideal world, these unconstitutional agencies would be abolished. In the meantime, Republicans should do everything to defund these agencies. If Republicans can’t get behind such a campaign, we can forget about ever restoring gun rights in America.
