United States Senator Marco Rubio Introduces Bill to Prohibit Federal Taxpayer Dollars From Being Sent to “Anti-Semitic” Universities

Florida Senator Marco Rubio recently  introduced legislation to stop all federal taxpayer dollars from flowing into universities and students who engage in ostensibly anti-Semitic protests or back foreign terrorist organizations.

“Our tax dollars should not be funding antisemitic, pro-terrorist activities on college campuses. It’s absolutely ridiculous the government is subsidizing this,” the Senator posted on Instagram.

The Ending Subsidies for Pro-Terrorist Activities on Campus Act was introduced on November 1, 2023 by the Republican Senator of Florida, in an effort to tackle the alleged rise of Anti-Semitic acts on university campuses.

“The last thing that students should be worried about is a threat to their safety,” the senator declared in a press release.

“Shamefully, some students and faculty members are supporting an organization that has pledged to commit violence until Israel no longer exists,” he continued

Since Hamas’ attack on the Jewish state on October 7, students nationwide have protested Israel’s occupation of Palestine.  Among these protestors, who have largely been peaceful, have been a small yet vocal faction that support militant groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah.

“It angers me to see these things happening on our campuses. It outrages me to understand we’ve paid for it, Rubio said to Fox News. “No federal dollars can be used to promote or support events that are designed to support the work of a foreign terrorist organizations,” he continued.

On top of that, Ending Subsidies for Pro-Terrorist Activities on Campus Act would mandate universities to report policies for anti-terror protests and bar students who engage in pro-terror demonstrations from receiving financial aid.

“If you are a supporter of these groups, if you are a student on financial aid, it becomes an automatic disqualifier for federal financial aid, “ Rubio stated.  “You have the right to those opinions if you are an American, you do not have the right to harass Jewish students,” he continued.

There’s no question that Hamas’ attacks were reprehensible. However, any pro-Palestinian or even Pro-Hamas sympathizer should be allowed to protest, provided that they do so in a peaceful manner.

Sure, universities should be defunded. However, due to Rubio’s neoconservative, pro-Zionist inclinations, his stances towards Hamas could be a smokescreen used to justify a broad-based assault on free speech in university settings. This must be opposed at all costs.

Universities should be purged of leftist academics and administrators, but free speech should still be promoted among the student body.
