Virginia Lawmaker to Introduce Articles of Impeachment Against Justin Fairfax

A member of the Virginia House of Delegates announced Friday evening that he will file articles of impeachment against Democratic Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax if Fairfax has not resigned by Monday.

“On Monday, I will be introducing articles of impeachment for Lt. Governor Justin Fairfax if he has not resigned before then,” said Patrick Hope on Twitter.

He followed that Tweet by announcing that he will hold a press conference Friday at 9 p.m ET.

“Due to large media interest, I will issue a statement regarding articles of impeachment at 9 pm tonight at Arlington Central Library,” he said.

Fairfax has been engulfed in a sexual assault scandal since Big League Politics broke the news that he had been accused by Dr. Vanessa Tyson last Friday. Earlier today, a second allegation of rape was levied against him by a woman with whom he attended Duke University.

So far, Fairfax has refused to resign.

But after the second allegation surfaced this afternoon, former Governor of Virginia Terry McAuliffe, also a Democrat, demanded Fairfax’s resignation.

Fairfax and the Virginia Democratic Party is in a tough spot, given that Gov. Ralph Northam was exposed by Big League Politics as a racist for wearing blackface or a KKK robe to a party during medical school. Attorney General Mark Herring admitted to once wearing blackface on Thursday, preempting any media attention on such behavior.
