Virginia Legislative Black Caucus Urges Northam To Resign At 2:30 Press Conference

Lamont Bagby, member of the Virginia House of Delegates and chairman of the Virginia Legislative Black Caucus, called yet again for embattled Democrat governor Ralph Northam to resign at his planned press conference at 2:30 PM. Northman has admitted to being in a medical school yearbook photo in which he was either wearing blackface or a Ku Klux Klan hood. Big League Politics published the photograph Friday.

Baby said on CNN Saturday that his Legislative Black Caucus had two conversations — one with the governor, which he referred to as a “frank conversation,” and then a conversation among the members. The consensus? The Virginia Legislative Black Caucus wants Northam to resign.

“If you’re in a position where you’re hurting those individuals, it’s time to step aside,” Bagby said.

“My gut is turning right now…we’re all shaken up about this, but I hope that the governor will make the right decision…and start the healing process,” Bagby said, noting that the right decision for Northam is “To resign.”

Northam tries to cling to power as national Democrats and even his own state party abandon him.
