Washington Secretary of States Brags About Using AI to Surveil Social Media Activity

Washington Secretary of State Steve Hobbs recently bragged about the state government using AI to keep tabs on social media activity. This has provoked backlash from conservatives, who want to limit the use of AI tech to snoop on and potentially censor social media users ahead of the 2024 presidential election.
Managerial liberals are obviously ecstatic about such a proposal, since it would give them another tool to keep tabs on their rivals.
Such a program has been rolled out in a gradualist fashion so as to keep the public unaware of this insidious scheme. Many a tyrant has recognized that the American populace can push back against tyranny, which has compelled them to change their strategy.
In the spring of 2023, Washington State Secretary Steve Hobbs’ office closed a $273,000 deal with the UK’s private company Logically. This partnership was forged in order to “scour” the web, “refute” misinformation, offer responses in real-time, to what the authorities deem as misinformation and disinformation. This is a public-private partnership that’s all-too familiar in Western nations where the private sectors teams up with governments to infringe on people’s freedoms.
AI has clear benefits that could fundamentally alter the US economy for the better and make people’s lives much easier. However, it can also be used for ill, which will necessitate prudential right-wing governments to regulate this technology in order to promote social cohesion and keep bad tech actors from undermining freedoms.
